About

About this project ‘Small footprint, huge out-reach’ I believe in the visions of others. I want to put my efforts where my heart is. Ask me what I teach and I’ll say: Students. Who I coach are novice writers. My www.bridgetostory.com website has been up and running since 2010.

Right now, Bridge to Story offers 52 free lessons for novices writing fiction and memoir. But many students now are asking for in-depth classes, rather than static web lessons. They like my online classes, but not all writers are online, or comfortable with the tech needed when using Skype. Bridge to Story wants to be there to teach these novices by building a new Real Time presence, Bridge to Story/learn, where story craft is more than just a chapter title in a self-help book.

We’re living in a time where everyone’s eager to write If you search Amazon for the keywords ‘how to write fiction’ you’ll get over 2,400 hits returned. Add the word plot to that search and we jump to 2,800+ titles. Swap out plot for character and we add another 1,400 hits. Try dialog, novel, short story, or memoir and 8,600+ titles are returned. Get into searching on niche genre keywords like, romance, young adult, mystery, historical, horror or erotic, and the hits jump to over 10,600 titles. And novices are searching for help with all those story elements.

My Kickstarter involves you in your learning to write stronger, and tighter. The project will raise funds to bring bridgetostory/learn to writers around the lower 48 US states in its own Tiny House style writer’s workshop. Think of it, with this project, you order an online session in any of my 18 online courses at any of the levels listed. And we bring in enough funds to cover the Workshop’s trailer, roof, & framing. That’s a huge leap for being on the road and headed to the state you’re in.

The lesson categories offered are: Beginner’s Craft (6 six-week lessons), The Short Story (5 six-week lessons), The Novel (4 six-week lessons), And Memoir (3 six-week lessons). No online class will have more than 6 students per Skype session, even when I’m on the road, unless I’m at a local meeting site in your town, or at your house with your writing group, we’ll keep things small and writer-you-focused.

With your support we’ll gather like-minded people, in groups of four to six, and get to work Skyping with you about these four categories writing in all genres. Bridge to Story/learn’s funding goal is hoped to be realized by the last day of September, 2016. The build will then last the full year until September 2017.

The funds we're working to raise go to make certain we design, and build the most efficient, predominately off-grid or RV ready mobile access to Bridge to Story/Learn for novice writers.

 Small footprint, huge out-reach.

We're aimed at building this non-institutional educational system that can reach individual writers, writing groups, shelters, senior & community centers, homeschools …any place that can use a writing lesson. Bridge to Story currently is an effort of one - myself. I have already designed the online site’s look and feel, and created the curriculum.

But with your backing this Real Time vision can move onto incorporating the who and the how-to to bring this roving project to fruition. Your help will make this a viable plan for a living entity.

The Rewards :

I'm putting my editing skills, workshop offerings and published books up for the various rewards we're offering. You sign up for any of my courses and when my funding goal is reached, you’ll also receive the classes you've pledged at, plus my printed book rewards, as listed: Thank you for your support!

You get classes & rewards, I build a Roving Tiny Writers Workshop.

Risks and challenges

The biggest challenge in getting the funding here and having enough for the trailer and the framing of this writers workshop is that it's only the beginning.
Once this kickstarter has been 'kicked off' I'll have to move over to Patreon.
There I'll create podcasting & videos to continue with funding this build.
The challenge is kickstarting this off right. The builder is ready. The coach is ready (me)!
I simply need backers to be ready as well. And for those backers to follow me into Patreon once this goal's been met.
