About
Capture: Bible Edition is a card game with 2 decks. The first deck is called the Play Deck. It has several Character, Item and Place cards, all taken from the Bible. It also has multiple Action Cards that effect the Character, Item and Place cards, along with cards in players hands and also the second deck, called the Goal Deck. The Play Deck also has several Play Now cards which only have 1 function-to change the Goal Card.
The Goal Deck is just what it sounds like-each card in the Goal Deck shows a different goal to win the game. Each card in the Goal Deck shows different Characters, Items or Places which are tied together by a scripture from the KJV of the Bible. If on your turn you have the Character, Item and/or Place card shown on the Goal Card, you win. But as mentioned above, the Play Now card changes the Goal Card immediately, which means the goal of the game changes while you play.
Note: I consciously chose NOT to include Jesus as one of Character Cards for the game. Because these cards are traded, taken, discarded, etc., I felt it would be disrespectful for a Jesus Character Card.
I am looking to raise $10,000.00 USD for the copyright of game imagery, and the professional printing of thousands of Capture: Bible Edition games. Your support will not only allow you and your family to enjoy a quality Bible themed game, but also help spread the good news to others as well.
Risks and challenges
Two of the greatest challenges to publishing games are-a) ensuring the game is fun and the instructions are clear and b) creating a product which is professional and durable.
For the first challenge, I have a group of individual and families who test every game prototype I create. I take their suggestions and use this to rework the game and/or the instructions. At times I have had to completely start over on a game concept, but this level commitment to ensuring the game is fun and understandable creates games which are fun for a variety of people.
As for the second challenge, I have had the good fortune to have had 2 card games previously published. This has allowed me to learn more about the publishing and distributing process of games. I learned there are 2 different types of printing available. The first is often used for small batches of games and uses glossy cardstock. While the games printed like this look good, the ink is printed on top of the glossy surface and therefore wears away with time. Big game companies use a process called off-set printing where a different type of paper is used for the cards and the ink is laid each individual color at a time. This gives the highest quality and the most durability. The drawback is the purchase orders need to be thousands of units of games.
I have worked with a local company who is able to ensure my game is printed using off-set printing. Also, because the company is local, if any issues do arise during the process I am able to speak with persons face to face rather than trying to communicate about specifics via phone or e-mail.
