Stretch Goal #8: The Short Story

Posted by Silence in the Library Publishing (Creator)

I'll be honest, I never thought we'd make it to the $8000 level.

But you all came through for us.

I'll now be writing a time traveling short story involving a presidential assassination that you'll all be receiving a digital copy of. I'll be adding two rewards at the $100 level that will allow two people to be written into the short story.

If, somehow, we make it to the $8500 level, this short story will get an illustration by Erin Kubinek and will be included in all of the print copies of the book.

Thank you all so much for the support so far. It means so much to Erin and I, and Scout is tickled that so many people want to see a book like this, just like she does.

Add-ons:

Don't forget to increase your pledge by the appropriate amount for the add-ons listed below! After the Kickstarter ends today you won't be able to adjust your pledge!

$5 A digital version of the book illustrated by Scout. UNLOCKED!

NEW ADD-ON: $5 Postcard with art by Erin Kubinek signed by the author, the artist, and Scout.

$20: A standard poker-sized deck of playing cards featuring Erin Kubinek's illustrations of U.S. Presidents and their would-be (and occasionally successful) assassins. Please include an additional $3 for shipping outside the United States.

$20: An additional soft-cover version of the book. Please include an additional $3 for shipping outside the United States.

$15: An extremely high quality 8x10 print of an illustration of the President or assassin of your choice from the book by Erin Kubinek.

NEW ADD-ON: $15: An extremely high quality 8x10 print of an illustration of the President of your choice from the book by Scout.

$15: A signed, print copy of Bryan Young's previous novel, Operation: Montauk.

And finally: More Art:

This is George Atzerodt. He was supposed to kill Vice-President Andrew Johnson the same night John Wilkes Booth killed President Lincoln. Instead, he got drunk and wandered off into the night, drunk, discarding his weapons in the street.

They still hung him.

Stretch Goal #6!

I’m proud to announce that we’ve hit our SIXTH Stretch Goal and New York Times Bestseller Paul S. Kemp will be doing the introduction to A Children’s Illustrated History of Presidential Assassination.

Again, You should visit his website and check out his latest book, The Godborn, which comes out next week. And follow him on Twitter!

$15: A signed, print copy of Bryan Young's previous novel, Operation: Montauk.

Next Stretch Goal:

We might be cutting it close, but if we hit the $8000 mark, I’ll be writing a short story that will be free to all backers involving Time Travel and Presidential assassination. I’ll also add a new reward level (limited to two) where you’ll actually be written into the story, in addition to getting a hardcover of the book and all of the other things that level of reward entails.

After that, if we happen to hit $8500, the story will be included in all of the print copies of the book.

And finally: More Art:

This piece is Erin's interpretation of Richard Lawrence, the crazed house painter who thought himself to be the King of England, and tried to kill Andrew Jackson. We couldn't find any evidence of photos or drawings of him, so this is Erin's interpretation of the fellow.

Meet our Book Designer!

Posted by Silence in the Library Publishing (Creator)

Books don't just happen overnight. Even if you write a book, it still needs to be designed and laid out on a page.

Designers in general seem invisible in many circles, and we wanted to highlight the designer we've contracted to bring you the book's interior: Heather Ackley.

Heather Ackley is an incredible artist (look at this oil-on-wood painting she did of Ahsoka Tano, or the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, or the Big Shiny Robot dressed all fancy) and an accomplished designer.

She's going to take my words and Erin's (and Scout's) illustrations and bring them to life on the page.

If you're interested in more of her work, check out some of her design samples below, visit her design website, or visit her fine art website. We're really proud to have her aboard and you'll love the look she brings to the book. It will be well-designed and that's for sure.

We've got about 9 hours left, so any help you can do spreading the word on the project is greatly appreciated!

Stretch Goal #5 Unlocked!

Posted by Silence in the Library Publishing (Creator)

That's right!

More Free eBooks!

Now, everyone at the $5 level or above will get eBook versions of my book, Operation: Montauk, AND the first book of Janine Spendlove's fantasy trilogy, War of the Seasons: The Human!

Both of these books, Operation: Montauk and War of the Seasons, are published by Silence in the Library and are indicative of the great work this publisher does. Everyone here hopes you enjoy them!

This best-selling first book in Janine K. Spendlove's War of the Seasons Trilogy introduces us to Story, a young girl who is ripped from her world into a world of mythical creatures at war with each other. Story seeks a way home, and along the way must make choices that will decide the fate of an entire world.

Next Stretch Goal:

Our next stretch goal is one of our biggest yet: an introduction to the book by New York Times Bestseller Paul S. Kemp.

You can read all about him here.

In order to get us to that point, I'd like to ask all of you to facebook, tweet, tumble, pin, or whatever you do for social media to tell others about this project!

And finally: More Art!

We have two pieces of art here for you to look at, one is a doodle of Charles Guiteau, the man who shot President Garfield. He wanted to be the Consul of Paris and when that couldn't happen... well he took matters into his own hands.

The other picture is his portrait from the book.

Both are from Erin Kubinek, both look great and I couldn't be more proud of the work she's doing on this book.

So snag your add-ons, tell your friends, and this will all be over tonight!

Stretch Goal #4!

Posted by Silence in the Library Publishing (Creator)

We made it through our fourth stretch goal!

That means that everyone who has pledged more than $5 will receive (by the end of the week!) a digital copy of my last book, Operation: Montauk.

It's a science fiction pulp adventure novel about a World War II soldier sent back in time to kill Hitler but finds himself in the late Jurassic instead. There, he finds an entire community of time travelers from different eras, all trying to find out why they're there, how to get home, and how to survive against the dinosaurs... ...and then the Nazis show up.

It's a great time and I hope you'll all enjoy it. And I hope you'll tell people that you're excited about A Children's Illustrated History of Presidential Assassination, and for $5 they can get digital copies of both of them.

New Reward Level:

Due to overwhelming demand, we've added a new reward level. It's at $40 and combines the two $20 levels.

So, for $40 you can get both the deck of playing cards AND the softcover of the book. It's a great deal and you should consider taking advantage of it.

And don't forget to add $5 to your pledge for Scout's version of the book!

More Art:

Now, we have a piece of art to show from artist Erin Kubinek...

This is Leon Czolgosz... He assassinated President McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York in 1901. When the crowd grabbed him and began to beat on him, President McKinley, bleeding from his middle, pleaded with the mob, "Go easy on him, boys. He could not have known..."

There's so much more to the story and it's all in the book.
