Athena's Daughters, Volume 2 Kickstarter + Other Cool Projects

Posted by Silence in the Library Publishing (Creator)

1. Athena's Daughters, Volume 2

We're excited to announce that the Kickstarter for the Athena's Daughters, Volume 2 anthology is  live! You can get to the project page by clicking on the image below.

As you may know, we held an open submission for Athena's Daughters 2, and we were really pleased with the quality of the stories we received. We combed through over 150 submissions to find 21 stories (15 initial stories, and 6 stretch goal stories) that we think fit together to make what may be our best anthology yet. And the best part is that, while we have some great established authors like Carrie Ryan, the vast majority of our stories are from new up-and-coming writers.

Because payment to authors, artists, editors, and layout professionals has already been completely covered by the previous Athena's Daughters Kickstarter, we were able to keep the initial goal very low—enough to cover the costs of printing and shipping. This allowed us to set some really cool stretch goals at very low levels. The Kickstarter has been up for six days, and we've passed the initial goal, and have already hit a ton of stretch goals, with more great stretch goals on the way!

And, with all of the stories and artwork already in, the delivery timeline on this one will be much shorter than was the case with past anthology Kickstarters.

We're really excited about Athena's Daughters 2, and hope you will join us once again in the journey!

2. The Stacks

If you haven't already gone to our website and subscribed to our eZine, The Stacks, please do so by clicking on this link and scrolling to the bottom right side of our front page to find the subscription form. You'll be glad you did. Each quarter, we put out an issue of The Stacks filled with free short fiction and artwork from new and established authors. We'll be sending out an issue in about two weeks, and it will contain short fiction from our Athena's Daughters 2 authors and art work from Ginger Breo and Autumn Frederickson.

3. A "Thank You" for Our Repeat Backers

Many of you have backed several, or even all, of our Silence in the Library Kickstarters. We often tell you how thankful we are for your support, but we'd like to show you. So, if you've backed at a physical reward level for three or more Silence in the Library projects, please expect to find something extra in your Athena's Daughters 2 package when the books ship. If you have backed at a digital reward level for three or more Silence in the Library projects, we'll have extra digital rewards for you, as well.

Again, thank you so much for your continued support of Silence in the Library and our authors and artists.

4. Other Great Projects

Tales of the Weird Wild West

When you visit the Athena's Daughters 2 project page, you'll see at the bottom of the page that we've partnered with a couple of other really cool anthology projects for cross-promotion. Tales of the Weird Wild West from Danielle Ackley-McPhail and the good folks over at eSpec Books is one of those. We've backed this project, and are really excited to see the finished project.

The Weird Wild West is an anthology of fantastic stories of the Wild West as it never was—and in all the weirdest ways that can be imagined, featuring some of the best writers in the speculative fiction world. The initial line-up includes stories by R S Belcher, Tonia Brown, Diana Pharaoh Francis, John Hartness, Jonathan Maberry, Gail Z. Martin, Misty Massey, and James Tuck, and four slots have been left available for open submissions.

After you've backed Athena's Daughters 2, please click on their link at the bottom of our page (or click on the image above) and go check out this cool anthology, as well.

Six by Six

Six by Six brings together six of today's most exciting speculative fiction authors. In a one-time offering, never to be offered again in a single package, each of six authors brings to you, their Kickstarter backers, a collection of six speculative fiction stories. That's 36 stories in all, roughly twice the size of a typical anthology.

With stories by Bradley Beaulieu, Brenda Cooper, Stephen Gaskell, Tina Connolly, Will McIntosh, and Martha Wells, this looks like a very cool project. We've backed it, and hope that you'll check it out by clicking on the project image above.

The Society for the Preservation of CJ Henderson

This one is another great anthology project from the folks at eSpec Books. It's a memorial anthology for the late author CJ Henderson, compiled by his friends and fellow authors.

CJ's collection of works is vast and varied. Everything from hard-boiled detectives to military science fiction. He wrote comics for Marvel and flash fiction for the annual Boris Valejo calendars. He's know for writing pulp and writing Lovecraftian mythos. The project creators wanted to capture some small cross-section of that scope of work.

With that in mind, the authors in this collection--Jean Rabe, James Chambers, Patrick Thomas, Greg Schauer, Leona Wisoker, John L. French, Jeff Young, David Boop, Robert M. Price, Danielle Ackley-McPhail, and CJ Henderson himself--have lent their own voices to CJ's worlds, sought to capture a glimmer of him through his beloved written word.

The best part about this is that all of those involved in creating the anthology - the authors, artists, cover designers, publisher, and everyone else - have elected not to take any type of payment for the anthology. Instead, all funds raised will go to CJ's estate to help defray the costs of his long battle with cancer.

Please go take a look at it (by clicking on the image above) when you get a chance.

Sincerely,

Ron Garner, Silence in the Library Publishing

Silence in the Library Publishing, along with authors Timothy Zahn, Jean Rabe, and Megan O'Russell, are pleased to bring you our latest Kickstarter project, the Silence in the Library 2014 Fall Releases. We're incredibly excited about all three books we're offering here, and you can get one of them, all of them, or any combination you may like.

Here's author Megan O'Russell to tell you more about the project:

We're trying out a couple of new things here.

First, we're running multiple books in a single Kickstarter. Our sense is that this will be more user-friendly for backers, in that it will allow us to run fewer Kickstarter projects and reduce the frequency with which you guys are being updated from us about upcoming projects.

Second, we've put the first three chapters of each of the books up on Wattpad.com so that you can get a sense of which of these books appeal to you before you back for them.

As with all of our projects, you will get some great stretch goal eBooks and short stories that are available free only to Kickstarter backers.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and thank you so much for supporting Athena's Daughters and other Silence in the Library projects.
