RYAN LANDRY AND THE GOLD DUST ORPHANS
For close to twenty years Ryan Landry and his theatrical troupe, The Gold Dust Orphans, have been playing to packed houses in Boston and Provincetown, Massachusetts. They have a strong and dedicated audience of thousands who have followed Ryan and the gang religiously from one hilarious play to another – all of them based on classic films, time honored theatrical works and of course, high camp pop culture. The Orphans always take their audiences on an amazing, hallucinogenic trip through dozens of familiar themes - Everything from Dr. Seuss, ("How Mrs. Grinchley Swiped Christmas") to Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", ("Who's Afraid of the Virgin Mary?"). Landry's take on Euripides, "Medea"played to rave reviews as well as his award winning nod to Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" ("Pussy on the House"). The Orphans love to tackle vintage classics such as Hitchcock's, "The Birds" ("The Gulls") and high minded gems like Lillian Hellman's "The Little Foxes", ("The Little Pricks"). The list goes on and on! ... Over 50 spectacular productions in nearly 20 years! Wow!
One thing is for certain however, no matter how high the hurdle or how tight the girdle ... The Gold Dust Orphans NEVER stop working! AND The Gold Dust Orphans ALWAYS deliver! Now is their chance to hit New York City for the very FIRST time! ... Won't you come onboard?
THE MAGIC THAT IS MILDRED FIERCE
In Spring 2013, Landry hit it big with MILDRED FIERCE - his adaptation of the 1945 family drama about a long suffering mother and her ungrateful daughter. Landry's adaptation gave the film a new shine and transformed the classic film noir into a low budget, high quality, fun loving musical! When looking to cast his leading lady he looked no further than the multi-talented Varla Jean Merman, the award winning star of his 2010 smash "Phantom of the Oprah."
MILDRED was an unqualified smash hit - even by Orphan standards and the critics gave the musical one 'must see' review after another. Don Aucoin of the Boston Globe said "Merman…certainly proves to have an expression for every occasion, delivering a bravura performance in Ryan Landry’s dizzily entertaining musical sendup of “Mildred Pierce." Exeunt Magazine reviewer Richard Patterson said "Landry’s script for the show succeeds so well because it trusts its source material enough to let the lines that landed on film speak for themselves".
MILDRED FIERCE was nominated four times by the Elliot Norton Awards presented by the Boston Theater Critics Association. Outstanding Design, Midsize, Small or Fringe Theater; Outstanding Musical Production by a Midsize, Small or Fringe Company; Outstanding Director, Small or Fringe Theater - James P. Byrne. The show WON for Outstanding New Script!
HELP BRING MILDRED TO NYC
Though a number of Landry's plays have been produced by other smaller theater companies around the United States, the Gold Dust Orphans have NEVER toured with a show. Based on the overwhelming popularity of MILDRED, Landry thought it was FINALLY high time to take his amazing troupe on the road this October! TO NEW YORK CITY THAT IS!
The Gold Dust Orphans are set to present MILDRED FIERCE at Theatre 80 St. Marks - (80 St. Marks Place in the East Village of NYC) for 12 performances ONLY over four weekends in OCTOBER 2013 and they DESPERATELY need your help to make it happen. For their first time on the road the Orphans need some additional support to help cover all of the costs of touring. Fortunately, when presenting locally in Boston or Provincetown, the cost of the ticket and a small number of generous supporters make it possible for the Orphans to live in the black but to go to NYC? ... Well, that's another story! There are simply too many additional expenses (lodging, lighting and sound rental, theater rental) that we need to cover too make sure the company doesn't go into the RED! (YIKES!)

Risks and challenges
This is the Gold Dust Orphans first leap into the life of a touring company - and that life on the road comes with a whole host of new challenges that we don't typically face in our regular homes of Boston and Provincetown. The chief strength we have in our favor is that many of us have been theater professionals for longer than we have been members of the Orphans. There are centuries of theatrical knowledge kicking around in this group. We are very confident that any theater company than can make Medea's chariot fly across the theater for less than $25 - Well, we believe we can solve just about ANY problem that comes our way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
