About The Begging Bowl
The Begging Bowl is a true neighbourhood restaurant - we consider all of our customers to be part of our extended Begging Bowl family - and with the help of this Kickstarter campaign, we want to be able to provide them with the kind of dining experience that they truly deserve. We have a vision for The Begging Bowl and we want to take the restaurant to new heights.
Since our opening in 2012, thousands upon thousands of customers have walked through the doors, seven days a week, but now, six years later, the restaurant is calling out for some love! And this is why we need your help...
What people say about us
'Absolute gem! Crunchy seabass to die for and the banana fritters are incredible. One of us was gluten free and they looked after us so well. Really loved the cocktails too. Will definitely be back' - Paul G
'Top restaurant with a great mix of fresh flavours and ingredients - they make me want to try and recreate their Thai salads full of mint, peanut, chilli and seasame (but knowing I'll fail). Love the unlimited sticky and jasmine rice! Great drinks including partizan beers.'-Yelly G
'I LOVE this place! I've only been twice but I think it is one of my London favourites. Super friendly staff, a light, airy restaurant with a conservatory bit for when it's warm, and the food is deeeee-licious. While the flavours on the menu are all familiar Begging Bowl does things a little differently and both times I've been I have tried something completely new. The noodle dish you see in my pictures is one of my favourite meals of 2016! Cannot recommend enough.' - Babs

A little bit about me
Hi, I’m Jane, I’ve been a chef for 20 years working in some of the best restaurants in London. My restaurant partner Jamie and I share a strong passion for Thai food and great flavours: In 2003 I fell in love with the complexity of Thai cuisine and spent four years working with legendary Thai chef, David Thompson at the Michelin-starred London outpost of Thai restaurant Nahm. I have been planning this renovation for 4 years and we are finally in the position to do it properly and it means the world to me.
We need money for
There are the essential works that need to be completed for us to be able to stay open long-term, including central heating for those cold winter months, new tables & chairs, and a bathroom refurb.
And then there are the bigger plans - plans that we're ridiculously excited about and just know our customers are going to love:
- We're going to extend the bar area to create an awesome new cocktail bar, with space for guests to sit at the counter and enjoy cocktails and snacks from a brand new bar menu.
- We're (finally) going to totally gut, extend and re-build the kitchen with brand new equipment - you have no idea how much this means to us! Our current kitchen only has enough room (if you can call it that) for three chefs to squeeze in - and for a 70-seat restaurant that is just crazy! The re-build will enable us to, well, breathe (!), but we'll also have the space and equipment for experimenting more with ingredients and dishes, which ultimately means exciting new menus for our customers.
We're keen to make it clear that this is not about some flashy, over-the-top refurb - that is just not us. We simply want to create the best possible dining experience for our customers. We promise that the heart & soul of The Begging Bowl will always remain.
We have lots of exclusive, enticing rewards to thank you for being part of our journey. Risks and challenges
Our planned refurbishment and extension has been a long time coming. This isn't something we decided on overnight, the restaurant has been in need of TLC for some time now, so we have been planning this in our heads, on paper, and with our talented team of experts for longer than you'd imagine.
The restaurant will need to close for a short period of time to allow for the works to take place, but it has all been carefully planned out with a great team, so we don't foresee any issues with re-opening on time. However, if timings do become tight, it won't cause any major problems if we need to push the opening date back slightly. Frustrating? Yes. Disastrous? No.
As a team, we are used to handling anything that comes our way - in fact, if you saw how we handle a restaurant as big as ours in a kitchen the size of ours, you'd know we can cope with anything that is thrown at us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
