There are a lot of strange stories that come from Recondite Hill. Tales of a haunted woods, and of the town nestled within them. Of familiar yet horrifying things that slither in the dark, stalking the unsuspecting residents down the quiet streets. But there is also the unknown, lurking in the outskirts of the town.
They are always watching, waiting for the right moment.
Their time has now come.
Welcome to Recondite Hill
This book is a collection of stories about the strange beings that lurk on the edges of nightmares and reality in a small town called Recondite Hill. It is, in essence, a love letter to those weird local stories about monster sightings, unexplainable events and forbidden places. These stories are captured in black-and-white gray scale on 110 pages of haunting comics and illustrations by 24 magnificent artists and writers.
Our goal for this Kickstarter will cover any physical books purchased, and will pay our artists and writers for their work. If we over-fund, we can give even more money toward the artists!
The Big, Scary Stuff....
Easily digested with this lovely pie chart—thanks Steph.
As you can see, the majority of funds for this project are directly going to printing and of course to paying our lovely contributors. The rest is basically the nitty-gritty stuff that crops up with these kinds of publishing adventures. We're trying to keep everything at a pretty reasonable level- but here's where it gets cool.
However much we fund, whatever is left over will go towards incremental and democratic pay increases for everyone contributing. Currently the editors (3 of us) are working on this pro bono out of love, but if we over-fund we can also get paid for our efforts. Essentially, our first priority is making sure the artists and writers get paid their fair share of any profits made.

Given that this is our first time printing an anthology, we want to make sure we do it right. Our main goal is to get this book printed and the contributors paid as soon as possible. We felt the best way to make sure we can get this done is to keep the Kickstarter simple and avoid any additional merchandise, and the additional money/shipping/time that they can cost.
Check back here later for potentially more reward tiers during the Kickstarter run!

Risks and challenges
We’ve gotten the hard part out of the way: all of the comics and illustrations for the book are complete! Now we need the funding to get the book printed, and the artists and writers payed for their hard work.
This is our first time putting together a book, and running a Kickstarter. We’ve done a lot of research and number crunching to make sure that no matter what, if we make our goal we can pay our artists and get the book out to whoever wants a copy.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
