This past January, after years of writing and developing as a band, we began to work on a new EP. We were patient with this process, waiting until we had five songs that we truly believed in, and had cultivated the musicianship to do them justice. We were fortunate enough to work with award winning producer, and kindly patriarch John Switzer, who produced this EP, whilst acting as a mentor to us. We began this process with the intention to self-fund the entire thing, though as it happens with young artists, the production fees quickly surpassed our budget. Recording an independent record, it turns out, is incredibly expensive, and when coupled with manufacturing fees, a promotional budget (dat merch), and tour costs, it becomes indisputably daunting. However we will not be shaken or thwarted, but instead turn to our community for help! You all have been incredibly generous throughout our young career, and we turn to you again to help transform our nearly tangible dreams into a reality. Your $upport will be instrumental in the completion of this new EP that we are truly proud of, as well the small Canadian tour that will follow it's release, which we will use to promote it. Music is our present, so anything you can spare will bring us one step closer to making music our future!
Risks and challenges
There are several challenges that come with releasing and EP and going on tour. In regards to recording, it can be difficult to find the facilities, and the production team necessary to pull off a recording that is truthful and representative of the band. Especially for us, having built our understanding of ourselves as a live-performing band, it was important to us to create a recorded sound that would capture the charm and spontaneity of our live show. Luckily, we have assembled a thoughtful and attentive team that has not only helped us do our music justice, but has elevated it beyond it's initial state.
It is important to go into the recording process with the arrangements, for the most part, already buttoned up and ready for recording. With so many members, coordinating practice sessions and working to stay on the same page is a constant challenge in general, but especially in light of carving our sound into stone. We have been hard at work for several years preparing for this process and so far, the recording has gone well, and all signs point to the continuation of this.
As far as touring goes, we are fortunate enough to have a dedicated group of band members who have dreamed of touring for many years. This is integral to the coordination of the tour itself. We are also lucky to have family and friends throughout Canada, which helps us plan gigs in provinces outside of Ontario. With their help, and the help of fellow bands, we have already solidified an anchor date in Halifax for this upcoming September, as well as shows in Sherbrooke QC, and Toronto. All that's left to do now is scrounge up the funding to make these plans possible!
