Ruler by Default is a fantasy life simulation with dating elements, played from the perspective of a 21 year old male who is inadvertently summoned to another dimension and subsequently crowned successor to an evil overlord after an unexpected twist of events.
Dimensional rifts don't just pop up every day, and forecasts predict you have exactly 100 weeks before you can even think about going home, so you may as well get comfortable. As the overlord it will be up to you to carefully manage your schedule and build relationships with those around you, and perhaps even put the moves on some cross dimensional cuties.
The gameplay of Ruler by Default is split into two main parts: scheduled activities and events. (Note: All images seen here are early prototypes, and likely to be adjusted and improved over the course of development)
With the next ride home 100 weeks away, you've got a lot of time to burn, and it's up to you how to spend it. Each week you can set out a schedule for yourself, filling your time with activities such as learning magic, studying the history of the land, blatantly shirking your duties, and more.
Each activity will be accompanied by a fun mini clip of you performing your selected task, and will also modify one or more of your stats according to what you were doing. Your stats will weigh in on what events you encounter, as well as how you will be remembered by your subjects when your reign concludes.
Events and Romance
Along your journey, you will encounter four lovely ladies, each with her own personality, preferences, and profession.
Throughout your day to day scheduled activities, you will occasionally encounter special events, some random, some triggered, in which you get the chance to socialize with the girls and develop (or destroy) your relationships with them.

From an early age she grew up playing visual novels and life simulators like the one we hope to create. Her past experiences include taking commissions from a local game store, numerous web comic entries, hosting artist booths at multiple anime conventions

He is currently employed as a general Java Developer, but that's just when he's working for 'the man'. On top of being the primary developer, David handles a lot of the creative writing task.
Art TeamXiaolu Wang- Xiaolu is a filmmaker living in Minneapolis. She loves guerrilla style filmmaking, and tries to keep the camera open all the time. She watches a lot of microfilms, artful videos on Vimeo and also intense foreign films. She also made the promo video that you see above! :)
Ace Walker - Background Artist.
Commonly known on Teh Internetz as "Shadow," traditionally enjoys headbanging to metal music while overly caffeinated until he wonders where he is. However, he enjoys soothing and happy music too! He originally offered to compose the OST for the game via Steam, and soon invited some other acquaintances of his via YouTube and Steam that he considers music geniuses to help out! Not only that, but they can produce decent quality stuff. And with that, Josh knew who to bring into the team!
Jonathan Parecki, (https://www.youtube.com/user/jparecki95)While a full time student by occupation, Jonathan's real passion lies deeply rooted in music. Ever since he was a wee little lad playing around with Pokémon Red on his Gameboy, Parecki, as he is more commonly referred to, (both by friends and mortal enemies, mind you) has always had a keen ear for picking up melodies. This drove him to teach himself a variety of instruments over the course of his budding musical career. Currently, he is working as a musical artist on Key Animation Company's 25th Anniversary Album, set to be revealed at Anime North.
The crazy kid from the Down Under providing the rumble down under. Tom enjoys using the drums and bass guitar to create funky foundations for his works, and when he's not working on music can be found fulfilling his life long dreams of sleeping and rocking out with his band. His works and others he has played a role in creating can be found on the Web, including songs, instrumental pieces, movie soundtracks, as well as directing, filming and editing video
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge right now is that we are trying to do this project as a small team, which, while it gives us a lot of mobility when it comes to development, can also mean a lot of work and stress for everyone involved when the going gets rough. We tried to set a realistic timeline for the project, but should things start looking bad, we know some individuals who we can call on for backup, and aren't opposed to bringing others on board if that's what is needed.
If the going gets rough, we won't leave our contributors high and dry - we'll just have to kick it up a notch. We think this game is going to be awesome, and will do everything we can to make it happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
