Native Americans are people, not mascots. Support our cause and help us change Washington’s offensive team name.
WHAT WE’VE DONE
Last year we created a commercial to run during the Super Bowl, to explain why the Washington football team name is offensive to Native people--it immediately went viral and raised awareness with millions and millions of YouTube views.
For this year’s Super Bowl we want to it again, and much more. You can help make it happen by funding our new commercial and digital campaign that will be bigger than any other multimillion-dollar Super Bowl ad campaign this year. This is a continuation of Indian Country’s decades-long effort to Change The Mascot and end harmful stereotypes against Native peoples in sports.
Join the effort and in return get a great t-shirt that sends a message on its own, to “REPLACE", "RENAME", or "RETHINK" the derogatory name of the Washington, DC NFL team. Join the hundreds who are wearing this shirt in their communities to educate people about racism. And it's the perfect t-shirt to get the conversation started at this year’s Super Bowl parties.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
"The strongest possible pushback you can have after watching something amazing like that is, yeah but...you're right, you're right, we gotta change the name" -John Oliver
"This to me is bigger than anything else so far, just because of the visual impact and the persuasiveness of it. I found it powerful" -Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon
"I thought that commercial was one of the more moving commercials I've ever seen" -Mike Freeman, Lead Writer, during HLN Now
"Evocatic, soulful, unsparing" -David Gianatasio
WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO
We have a compelling concept for the next iteration of our campaign, but we need your help to bring it to life.
Our idea? To create a commercial and campaign that sends a clear and powerful message to NFL fans prior to and during this year’s Super Bowl. We’ll digitally remove the offensive logos from an exciting Washington highlight video and show the world what it will look like when the name is gone. No R-word, no mascots, no racism. But the amazing football play and players remain. In this way, we’ll remind Washington fans that their memories and tradition will remain when the mascot changes.
This idea requires complicated and time-consuming digital re-touching in editing studios of the commercial makers who are giving so much of their time and effort to this campaign. And we’ve got a lot of work to do to get the word out with our digital campaign. Compared to the millions of dollars for Super Bowl ads, $20,000 dollars is not much, but it will prove that when you’ve got a message that matters, you don’t need a lot of money.
And that’s why we’re asking for your support today. Help us bring this idea to life, and help us change the mascot.

Upon funding, we’ll get to work right away.
Our fight to change the mascot has been of David versus Goliath proportions. The Change the Mascot campaign simply cannot bring the same resources to bear as Washington’s billionaire owner Daniel Snyder (not to mention the NFL itself). At its very core, this movement has been about people, and that’s who it will be funded by. People like you.

Risks and challenges
We have the digital retouchers and equipment ready to go. All we need is the funding to get them started. Other than that, it is hard for us to foresee challenges that would derail our efforts.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
