For this coloring book, I will use the same platform as my last coloring book: CreateSpace. I am familiar with the website and setup for books through them, as this will be my sixth book published through them. This will be the longest book I've done so far, having over 200 pages total (compared to around 56 for the last coloring book). This will be an expanded version of the first book, with 75 different prehistoric animals, in addition to 25 of the dinosaurs featured in the first book.
Each coloring page will have an accompanying page right before it that features the sketches and concepts I'd gone through to create that page. These will be at 50% opacity: dark enough to see clearly, yet light enough that they can't be seen on the other side of the coloring page.
Part of the funds will be going into me purchasing a set of ISBNs. The goal for this campaign is 10 ISBNs for $295.00, but if enough funding is achieved, I will purchase the set of 100 ISBNs for $575.00. This will allow me to make more custom-cover books for backers, as well as lower the price of making future books, since I won't need to buy any more ISBNs.
A small part of the funds will go into buying the pens and paper I need to create the artwork, pay for the Adobe software I will be using to put it all together, and purchase proof copies and final copies of the book.
Another part of the funds will go into supporting me for the time it would take to do all of the research, artwork, and layout for the book. To get it all done as quickly as possible means I would not be able to do any commissions or other jobs in this time-frame. Some leftover funds will go into advertising the book on social media.
Risks and challenges
This is my very first Kickstarter, or even any kind of crowdfunding campaign, but not the first book project I have done. I am a graphic designer and illustrator with experience in making several books, including the dinosaur coloring book this one shall expand on. Since I am already familiar with CreateSpace, I will be using this platform to print my books, and from there I will send them off for delivery myself. If this project does not reach funding goal, I will still try to complete the coloring book, but it will take more time to complete. Since it is just me working on this, there will not be any waiting periods as the book is sent to a third-party for review. I have added an extra month to my planning to account for delays that may happen along the way. I will post updates on layout status, proof-copy status, and ISBN purchases, among other things.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
