Our project has been featured on a few different podcasts over the last couple of days. Both the Daily Grindhouse Podcast and Badasses, Boobs, and Body Counts with Mike and Iris have talked about our film. You can find the Daily Grindhouse crew here, and BBandBC here. Thanks to both shows for talking about our film, we knew we liked'ya!
If you have any questions about our film or have featured it on your podcast, email us at info @ fortydeucefilms.com and we'll make sure to get it posted on the Kickstarter page.
With less than two weeks left to raise the funds needed to make our film, we have a long way to go. Please keep on sharing the link to our project on Facebook and Twitter. Keep talking about our film. In a way, a simple Facebook post or Tweet is just as good as a donation because it's an endorsement from you to your friends and followers. We aren't going to make it without you, so thanks in advance for being a part of this project and mission, we can't thank you enough!

BEARD-Os AND BADASSES has been making waves around the web. In the past few days we have been featured on several sites who are helping us get the word out about our film. Here's a small sampling:
"To document the events that occurred – from 1999 to the present – by the actual participants, I find, is incredibly important.
Thanks to Geoff Todd and H. Perry Horton, such a history will be cemented with Beard-Os and Badasses: The Punks Who Took Film News Underground." Brad Miska, Co-Owner, BloodyDisgusting.com

"The Internet has changed everything. Even just 20 years ago no one had access to the kind of technology and information that we do now. It's helped bring your favorite stars into your living room, and in terms of news there's no faster way to get it.
It's an interesting story to say the least, and to document it all comes a new documentary called BEARD-Os AND BADASSES." Steve Barton, Co-Founder, DreadCentral.com

"Kellvin and I are excited to join this documentary which feature many of our online colleagues!" El Mayimbe, writer, Latino-Review.com

We'll be back in a few days with another update, but please continue to spread the news of our film. Share. Post. Kick.

"Great idea for a doc, good luck!" Alex Winter, BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, Director of DOWNLOADED
"I've always thought that the story of how online movie journalism got its start would make for an interesting documentary. Getting the opportunity to tell the BEARD-Os crew what it was like back then, and what it felt like taking that ride on the web rollercoaster, is something that I'm looking forward to doing." - Patrick Sauriol, Founder of Corona Coming Attractions
This project wouldn't exist without the participation of Patrick. When Corona Coming Attractions went online, it not only served as a database of updates on films in production, it created a community of like-minded film fans to talk about those pictures, feeling as if they were part of the production somehow. The entire cast of BEARD-Os AND BADASSES is equally important, behind each site is a story of someone who had the need to contribute to the dialogue and create a spot to write about films.
We wanted to share a partial cast list with the Kickstarter crowd to give you an idea of the scope we are seeking to create with this film. This is by no means a full list; we have a lot of actors, directors, and studio executives who have joined the project to talk about their experiences, and we continue to line up founders and editors of new sites each day. Hopefully, this gives you a good idea of just where we're going.
BEARD-Os AND BADASSES includes interviews with:
Patrick Sauriol (Corona Coming Attractions), Greg Dean Schmitz (Upcoming Movie), Kellvin Chavez and El Mayimbe (Latino Review), Harry Knowles (Aint it Cool), Garth Franklin (Dark Horizons), Berge Garabedian (JoBlo), Drew McWeeny (Hitfix), Ryan Turek (Shock Till You Drop), Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton and Jon "Value" Condit (Dread Central), Brad Miska (Bloody Disgusting), Brian Collins (Badass Digest, Horror Movie A Day), Bobby Roberts (Welcome to that Whole Thing), Grae Drake (Rotten Tomatoes), Billy Donnelly (This is Infamous), Michael Phillips (Chicago Tribune), Patrick Lee (Sci-Fi Wire), Katie Rife (Everything is Terrible), Chris Gore (Founder of Film Threat), Mike White (The Projection Booth), Staci Layne Wilson (Dread Central), Paul Corupe (Canuxploitation), Evan Saahtoff (Badass Digest), Scott Weinberg (FEARnet), David Walker (BadAzz MoFos), Jim McBride (Mr. Skin), Josh Johnson (REWIND THIS!), Brian Saur (Rupert Pupkin Speaks) Big Willy and the Samurai (Gentleman's Guide to Midnite Cinema), Tim Lucas (Video Watchdog), Chris Alexander (Fangoria), and many, many more.
In all, there will be over 50 interviews for this critical analysis of where we were and where we are in online film journalism. As noted below, there were false starts, missteps, and plenty of controversy, but a revolution was launched that changed the entire landscape of American film journalism and criticism.
We'll be back in a few days with another update, but please continue to spread the news of our film. 100% of our contributions have come from outside links, that means YOU are playing the key role in getting this film made. Share. Post. Kick!

PUNK - noun \ˈpəŋk\
A. Young inexperienced person : beginner, novice
B. A usually petty gangster, hoodlum, or ruffian
C. Online film journalist or commentator who gave the finger to popular conventions and forever changed the landscape of the motion picture industry.
SO, WHAT'S THE STORY?
This was a movement bigger than any one site, more significant than a name. BEARD-Os AND BADASSES: The Punks Who Took Film News Underground is a new documentary film project that aims to explore and serve as an oral history of one of the most important periods in American film journalism.
In 1995 when Patrick Sauriol flipped the switch on his new website Corona Coming Attractions, it changed everything. No longer was film reporting and criticism, in the exclusive hands of the few, privileged elite. For the first time, fans and enthusiasts threw their keyboards in the ring, and a revolution was launched.
Ain’t it Cool News was started the very next year, Upcoming Movies and Dark Horizons was launched shortly after that, and CHUD crawled and scratched its way to popularity. Before these sites existed, Hollywood had all the control when it came to print media. They could manage the hype and spin, make a bad film look good, bury production problems, and conduct re-shoots in privacy. But then the early cowboys of the internet came along, locked and loaded, ready to champion the good and report on the evil in the cinematic universe, and the entire landscape of both journalism and the internet were forever altered.
These were men and women who were raised on a steady diet of genre films and blockbusters, and who didn’t see themselves represented in the cut and dry academia of contemporary film journalism. You didn’t need to have a college degree to write, you just had to have an idea for a site, a deep working knowledge of film history, and a dial-up connection.
This documentary, the feature length debut from 40Deuce Films that begins production in May, will be an in-depth look at The Punks who took control of an out of control and outdated mechanism. There were false starts, missteps, and plenty of controversy, but a revolution was launched that changed the entire landscape of American film journalism and criticism.
In addition to the founders, editors, and content creators of these websites, we'll also be talking with the actors, directors, and studio executives who are sometimes fans, and sometimes detractors. With well over 50 interviews planned, not all of these will end up in the final cut, but we are making a point to shoot exclusive content for beardosandbadasses.com and for the exclusive Kickstarter Blu-ray set! We’ll also be traveling to conventions and making special detours to talk to the fans who helped these sites take off and stay up as they kicked and screamed for nearly two decades.
SO, WHY DO YOU NEED THE SCRATCH?
With pre-production now in the rearview mirror, the next two steps in the filmmaking process are staring us in the face and that is where the money is allocated: production and post-production. There are three main areas (in addition to a lot of little areas) where this money will go:
Production Crew: To give this story the treatment it deserves, we need to make sure we have a talented and experienced crew from the top down. Though many have agreed to work at a reduced rate, the cost is still significant.
Licensing: These websites have chased down stories and rumors from some of the biggest films at the box-office. As we talk to the actors, directors, and studio executives who participated in these features, we'll need to show clips, stills, character images, etc., and the fees to allow this can be massive. Many of these stories are essential to the film.
Travel: The nice thing about being online is you can do pretty much anything from anywhere, and these men and women took full advantage, which means we will be traveling extensively for interviews. From coast-to-coast, we have a detailed travel schedule that has us wrapping production in mid-June.
SO, TO PARAPHRASE JACK BURTON, ARE YOU READY TO SHAKE THE PILLARS OF HEAVEN?
Jump in and let's get this film rolling. We can't make this movie without you and we are going to do everything we can to make sure the world knows you helped us out. Pre-production is done, the next step is up to you. It's like a choose your own adventure book, only you end up with a cool as hell film and some killer rewards instead of a cheesy ending you saw coming from a mile away.
Help us spread the word about this film! Follow us on Twitter or Facebook, join forums and talk about this film, hire skywriters like Shia Labeouf. This project is only going to be a success because you helped us right from the jump, and we couldn't be more thankful for the help.
This is BEARD-Os AND BADASSES: The Punks Who Took Film News Underground!
On behalf of the BEARD-Os AND BADASSES crew, thank you!
