When you own a science store, you get a lot of ideas for products to carry. Some a great, some are 'meh', and some are silly. Sometimes a new idea can catch you completely off guard.
It was suggested that we develop a piece of clothing, which is always a bit dicey for us. But this wasn't a T-shirt, this was a satin scarf. A scarf with the periodic table printed on it in a colorful pattern that was subtle yet recognizable.
We were naturally skeptical but when we tossed the idea out the response was incredible! Loads of people wanted the scarf and asked when we would get it in. We got a sample and one of our managers wore it as a neckscarf during in the store on a Saturday and got a huge number of compliments! People could recognize it and loved the way it looked. We had to get these.
Trouble is, unlike other things we bring into the store, a custom scarf requires and order of lots of things. This was a lot of capital to put out, so we figured that if people were as enthusiastic and they said they are we should try out a Kickstarter projects to get the funding.
Not up for a scarf but want to back this Kickstarter? We have a bonus item as a reward for a $12 backing. Get an Elemental Dog Tag (with chain and bag) with the element of your choice!
Risks and challenges
This project won't be too hard as long as we get the proper funding. What we need is to get the word out to everyone who might be interested in this scarf.
We've got the design pretty well squared away. The development and printing time is farily shortand most of the production time is in transportation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
