An intense movement exploration of the female animal's external beauty versus the severe intuition beneath the surface.
"Flowers: All a Woman's Body" will be an evening length contemporary dance performance primarily inspired by "Flowers Unfurling", a site specific dance work I set on a large grassy hill two years ago. Initially I intended "Flowers Unfurling" to be set in a theater space, however, I was lacking the resources at the time. Thus, I took the piece outdoors! Despite the success of this outdoor dance event, I am still eager to explore this piece in a theater and create a full evening of work. In the vastness of the outdoors I felt the women were, at times, lost in a flurry. In a more intimate venue, this work can regain articulation and vulnerability.
ARC Pasadena is a gorgeous contemporary dance space owned and managed by John Pennington. While I have had the opportunity to perform at this venue, I have always dreamed of creating my own work in this space. Expanding this aggressive expression of feminine strength in an intimate theater will only make it more powerful and rich. "Flowers: All a Woman's Body" will be an intense movement exploration of the female animal's external beauty versus the severe intuition beneath the surface.
Your donations will make this vision a reality! If I cannot raise the funds, the project will not happen.
Below is a list of everyone involved. Your donations will go to paying all of these people for their work, as well as renting the performance space.
The Space: ARC (A Room to Create) Pasadena, CA
Rehearsals will run the last week of August through the last week of October. If this project is funded, the performance dates will be October 27 and 28, 2012.
(Any additional funds raised will go towards rehearsal space rentals, gas/travel expences, photographer, videographer, and additional collaborators.)
Your support means so much to all of us. The ten of us involved are recent CalArts graduates, and we are all seeking more sustainable recognition as artists in the professional public sphere. For me, this will be my first evening length choreographic endeavor. By helping fund this project, you are aiding me in my first steps towards becoming a professional choreographer.
Thank you so much. With your help we can make art happen!!!
