PRESENT — A Magazine About Making In This World

For all makers and dreamers. For all dreamers who make. Present is a publication for everyone creating something and challenging themselves on purpose, fighting the fight everyday. As we all do, and all our heroes before us. You are not alone!
We believe all conflicts and sadness is essentially rooted in not being able to work on your favorite unrealized projects. Not being yourself and hiding the work and talent you have inside, is killing you.
We want to share ways of overcoming self-doubts that might hold us back from being truly present. Our magazine is here to inspire and push, motivate and initiate, reflect and trigger. To get closer to what we really want. To execute what we know we need to do.
We believe that to be present, we need the courage to MAKE. Through making, we can discover and uncover ourselves, and realise our limitless potentials. Therefore, Present’s first issue is themed around that crucial first step. The moment when you begin doing what it takes to make what you believe in. Let‘s go!

Present is both a publication and a continuous discourse on creating, chasing and actualizing our dreams. In this increasingly individualistic era, we see Present as platform for social engagement – a place where we can share solutions to the problems faced by all of us, whatever we make or create.
We’ll publish daily routines, empowering habits and insights, gleaned in conversation with the global makers today – and a pinch of wisdom from the old masters. We’ll ask:
Why are you making? How do you manage your time and energy?
How do you concentrate? How do you recharge?
What stresses do you face? And how do you deal with them?
How do you tame your demons?
What are your guilty pleasures? And why do you feel guilty about them?
Do you have a favorite unrealized project? What do you need to achieve it?
How do you stay present in today’s world?

HYPER-TRANSPARENCY
This magazine will be its own example of an unrealized project that came true! Therefore, the making of the magazine, the victories and challenges we undoubtably face, will be shared with its readers. We believe that sharing is the best form of support.
SELF-BATTLES ON GLOSSY MAGAZINE SPREADS
We publish the struggles, successes and battles proudly, with outstanding editorial design and fresh photography, confidently pushing everyone who is making towards execution and delivery. This is hi-definition self-help.
A SUPPORTIVE NETWORK
It is crucial for us to pay everyone who puts work into this project, in line with our longterm vision of Present. We will run on fair exchange, not favors and good will. Therefore, one third of the funding goal goes into paying writers, editors and photographers.
Further more, by becoming a supporter, we would like you to become a collaborator: a part of the magazine and its community. We would like to invite every Kickstarter supporter to actively contribute to the magazine by a special question, with your answers printed in the issue.

1
PRESENT is a celebration of the NOW
PRESENT is a reminder to be IN THE MOMENT
PRESENT is a GIFT
PRESENT is a MANIFESTO
2
We believe in the present!
We believe in optimism. Our world gets increasingly loud and cluttered
with negativity, hate and faux nostalgia.
We fight against that.
3
To immerse ourselves in the moment =
to temporarily accept the difficulty of being,
to leave behind all expectations,
and to act with undivided concentration.
4
The present leads to the future.
The ability to find focus is essential
to surviving our current moment
of mass distraction.
From now on it will be only more
meaningful to be able to get into
the state of flow and deep work,
to get our important things done.
5
Being present is the secret to
contentment. A Harvard study from
2010 showed that people who
focus on their experience in the
moment are significantly happier than people whose minds wander away
from the now, no matter what activity.

All rewards come with a handwritten Thank You card + Free Shipping Worldwide.
Supporter = Contributor. By becoming a supporter, we would like you to become a collaborator: a part of the magazine and its community. We would like to invite every Kickstarter supporter to actively contribute to the magazine by a special question, with your answers printed in the issue.

PRINTING AND SHIPPING
We will print a high-quality print magazine, distributed worldwide. The magazine will have approximately 180 pages and will be printed in Berlin.

TEAM AND CONTRIBUTORS
It is crucial for us to pay everyone who puts work into this project, in line with our longterm vision of Present. We will run on fair exchange, not favors and good will. Therefore, one third of the funding goal goes into paying writers, editors and photographers.

HOPPMANN FOUNDATION
We are also going to support the Hoppmann Foundation, an institution close to our hearts and to PRESENT's mission. "Hoppmann Stiftung—Demokratie im Alltag" was founded in 1974 by Hugo's grandfather Klaus Hoppmann. It funds projects to support socially underprivileged children and teenagers, offering apprenticeships and assistance in finding work that they love, and helping them develop their passion and identity.

If this campaign is successfully funded we will produce a magazine. This will be released in Spring 2019, with approximately 180 pages and a format of 20 cm x 26.5 cm.
For the FUTURE we aim to publish bi-annually, as well as building a digital platform with new daily exchanges and content. We are devoted to create something sustainable and of long-term vision and value.
THANK YOU For the journey so far I want to thank everyone that joined the team and believed in the idea: Carlo Schenk, Sarah Discours, Vanessa Olt, Joseph Kadow, Eloise Harris, Bobby Kolade, Leni Herzog. This project is dedicated to my mother (on the cover) Ria Röthinger-Hoppmann †, my greatest inspiration and most present person I ever knew.
Thank you to everyone for supporting however big or small. With such a personal project it means the world to me!

Risks and challenges
As with any new endeavor, things could potentially go awry—even though we’re trying our hardest to make this thing real. But there are minimal risks when it comes to production. Issues could be delayed, for example, if we face unforeseen manufacturing hiccups (such as the paper supply not arriving on time, or our printer can’t meet our desired production schedule). That being said, we’ve done a lot of research on our vendors and are feeling confident about them.
*Not all photography used in the future cover and layout explorations are owned by us. Please contact us if you wish them to be removed.
