The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery has been guarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since 1937. This sacred shrine to America's fallen war heroes has been a monument of reverence to those soldiers who gave their very identity in service to their country.
Standing just across the Potomac River, amidst over 250,000 resting veterans and loved ones, this national memorial is visited by over 4,000,000 people a year, and guarded by the dedicated soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment. The Old Guard.
The Old Guard
The Old Guard is the oldest active duty infantry regiment in the United States Army, formed by President George Washington in 1784. This unit provides military support to the Capitol region, and conducts ceremonies on behalf of our great nation.
The Sentinels that guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are part of Echo Company, which houses a variety of ceremonial components. This includes the Continental Color Guard, the U.S. Army Drill Team, Caisson Platoon, and a complete Full Honors Presidential Escort Platoon.
This "Living Documentary" is the first of it's kind, and will cover portions of the rigorous training cycle of the Sentinels that guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This training program is highly selective, and boasts the least awarded badge currently awarded by the United States Army.
Generally, the process to become a Sentinel lasts up to 12 months. During this time, the standards and discipline required to guard "The Unknowns" is imparted from seasoned "Badge Holders" to the "New Men".
In our desire to illuminate the sacrifice given by the "The Unknowns", we have launched this project in order to illustrate the same ideals held by those who now preserve their memory.
Kickstarter is the largest group funding resource available for creative projects in the world. Every day, thousands of people like you pledge millions of dollars to inspiring projects from various categories.
Every project launched on this site must be fully funded before it's time expires, and there are thousands of great projects to choose from.
What Happens Next
Only when we meet our goal, is your pledge actually charged to your account. Additionally, any support of our project is greatly appreciated.
Please help expand this campaign by sharing it on twitter, facebook, and by emailing this Kickstarter link to all your friends, family members, and anyone else who would enjoy a documentary of this caliber.
How your pledge helps
Your pledge will assist our film crew of four, in a three week shoot covering transportation and lodging costs from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. This initial documentation will begin around Memorial Day, 2012, and last just under a month.
After this production term, our crew will fly home to put the finishing touches on this initial episode, and seek investment support in order to return to film the remainder of the Sentinel training cycle.
Thanks for checking out our project!
