WARM ELECTRIC WINTER. IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC. COME ON. JOIN IN. JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON. DON'T YOU WANT TO BE PART OF IT?
In just a few days I will be heading to New York City to record with producer David Brandwein at the Galaxy Smith Studio. (http://www.galaxysmith.com/) The cost of recording this cd is $6,000. That includes the rental of the studio, pay for the other musicians and the producer, and the cost of mixing and mastering the tracks. It is an expensive process.
Thanks to all of the wonderful people who have donated thus far, I've reached my kickstarter goal and the recording of Warm Electric Winter is a go! Please don't let that stop you from donating and spreading the word though. $5,000 was the absolute minimum I needed to raise to record this album. Extra funds will go towards designing the art work (in collaboration with Anna Bald of Nova Scotia), printing and manufacturing the cds, and the most exciting part....hand delivering Warm Electric Winter in a North American CD Release Tour!!!!!!
Warm Electric Winter will feature ten songs, many of them freshly written, a few of them old. This year has been packed with inspiration and the songs that it brought feel like nothing I've written before. Though they stand solidly alone, they really call out for full orchestration. Some of them suggest a 1960's girl group sound, with reverb-heavy back-up vocals and glitz. Others require a sinewy-thin transparency, a certain kind of fragility. There will be love songs. There will be non-love songs. One is a letter to my father. Another, a salute to a boy who escaped the hospital we inhabited together.
It has been over two years since I released my five song EP One for the Wind. In the meantime, I have grown an unprecedented craving to hear my songs LOUD. I want to feel it in the bottom of my gut when the bass kicks in and the drums come crashing. I want the layers of strings to surround me with the craziest, most tangled harmonies. I want the sudden sparsity to hit me straight in the heart, devastating and beautiful.
Dave Brandwein has been recording and producing artists in New York City for the past several years after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has worked with a plethora of artists from all over the musical spectrum, including writing, producing and touring in his own band, Turkuaz (turkuazband.com), and founding and operating Galaxy Smith Studios (galaxysmith.com) in Brooklyn.
In reference to the making of this album, Dave has said "I am beyond excited at this point...I anticipate a sound that preserves the best of what Rachael has already done and incorporates new dimensions that will only magnify the already brilliant songwriting."
To all of you who come to see me play, let me sing in your living rooms, offer listening ears and inspiring hearts. This is the most ambitious project I've attempted and it really won't be financially possible without your help. Every little bit does so much good. I so appreciate your generosity, whether you are able to donate or simply repost this link/video. Thank you so very much.
Another thank you to Rob Alder and James Burrows for helping me make this kickstarter video!
