For a long time, we have been enthusiastic lovers of myth and legend, so when we first decided we wanted of creating an anthology, mythology sounded like the perfect topic to focus on. We both lamented the fact that in our Western world, mythology has so often been told from a Eurocentric, masculine perspective. That's why our vision was to bring more diverse voices and stories to light. WANDERLUST was created for the lover of mythology who wishes to broaden their horizons and delve into unique stories that differ from common Greco-Roman myths that are often shown in popular Western media.
WANDERLUST, A Mythology Anthology, edited by Mariah Jarvis and Zoe Au, is a book of reimagined mythology, legends and folklore that celebrates stories from all over the world. Each work somehow ties to our theme "Quests and Journeys". Our 40 artists and writers have come together to bring this collaborative work to life, many of them sharing from their own cultures and experiences. We are extremely proud to showcase the diversity in our talented creators and the stories they tell.
WANDERLUST is filled with all-new comics, illustrations and short stories for every lover of mythology. Inside the book, you will find 40 original works based on myths from 24 different countries and cultures. Each work puts a unique spin a different myth. Creators were given creative freedom to reinterpret any mythological story, and were encouraged to be as inventive as possible.
In their works, our creators answer questions such as: What happens when a mythological being falls in love with a human? What if such magical beings walked among us in our modern world? Would ancient gods and goddesses use cellphones or ride motorcycles? Would they play Dungeons and Dragons? Our creators answer these questions with unique tales of meandering adventures, aimless wanderers, journeys to self discovery, and more.
The book will be 8" x 11" (22 cm x 28 cm), perfect bound, with 208 full color pages. If funded, we will be using the services of PrintNinja for the production of WANDERLUST.

Our funding goal is $31,000 CAD (about $24,200 USD), and those funds will be used to cover production of a 500 book print run, shipping and materials, paying all of our creators and editors, and any other fees that may occur. Here is the breakdown of our funding goal and the costs we'll need to cover:
This Kickstarter campaign offers backers a chance to purchase exclusive content, beyond the anthology itself. One such reward is our Kickstarter-exclusive print pack with art by Daniela Viçoso, Zoe Au, and special guest artist Kay Allan.
Every backer of the Wayfarer tier and above will be able to download the WANDERLUST PDF. Stretch goals such as stickers and charms will be available to all backers in the Roamer tier and above.
Our digital sketchbook contains extra artwork and stories that won't make it into the book. This includes progress sketches, abandoned drawings, deleted scenes, and an extra full short story by Imara Tettey!
This is currently a digital reward, but as one of our stretch goals we will have them printed and sent as extras to selected backer tiers!

Risks and challenges
While this is our first Kickstarter project, we have both been sure to conduct extensive research in planning this anthology. We have also been extremely lucky to have the support of moderators of similar anthology projects that were successfully funded. Through the process of planning and organizing this project we have been met with surprises and challenges, but we have managed to resolve them together through teamwork and external support. While there is no guarantee that everything will run 100% smoothly, we are both confident in our ability to handle and resolve any issues that may come up.
Of course, we are both aware that this is a very ambitious project and we could very easily encounter hiccups in the production and shipping. Books will be hand packaged and shipped by us. We've tried to make our estimated timeline as foolproof as possible, but sometimes unprecedented delays occur. We will be sure to be diligent and up-to-date with our project updates and keep all buyers and contributors informed as we resolve any issues that may occur.
We accept full responsibility for fulfilling both our contributor payments and backer rewards if we are funded. Our number one priority will be to ensure that both backers and contributors are satisfied as promised as soon as we can manage it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
