August 7, 2017. Today we reached our goal and became 100% funded. This. Is. Awesome! We are extremely excited because not only did we reach our goal in 14 days, we will be able to finish the film!
We want to show this movie, and better yet, explain the whole process to as much people as we can, so people can feel inspired and who knows, maybe they too will start their own projects (film or in any other field) and make their dreams come true.
Our campaign doesn't end until August 24th. All the additional funds that we raise until then will be spent on the following:
• Covering the costs of delivering the film to movie theatres.
• A strategic marketing campaign for the film, which includes movie posters and a number of other promotional materials.
• A limited press tour with certain key cast members.
• Private screenings for the press
How much does it cost to do the promotion of a movie? That depends on what type of promotion you do:
You can place billboards in different cities, do a press tour all over the country, place ads in newspapers and TV. This will require more money than doing a limited press tour, and not posting any newspaper and TV ads.
Depending on how much more money we can fund over our $12,159 goal, we will know what type of promotion we can do for Los Futbolistas.
Original Introduction Before we had Reached Our Goal:
Hi, my name is Juan Falla, writer and director of Los Futbolistas.
I love movies. I love action movies. I love to be immersed in the stories and worlds that movies take us.
Some say it's impossible to make a movie without a million dollar budget (we spent less than 7 thousand shooting the movie, editing, composing and producing the music). Together with a team of rebels we set out to do the impossible: an entertaining action movie that looks like a million dollars!
Inspired by the biggest rebel of them all, Robert Rodriguez, we asked our selves: If Mr. Rodriguez was able to shoot "El Mariachi" with 7 thousand dollars in 1992, surely we can do the same with all the digital technology available today, right?
Inspired by Mr. Rodriguez we created...
Using these rules as our guide, we were able to assemble a team of 48 talented actors, 31 locations, a crew of 6 people, wardrobe, props, and everything needed to start shooting.
29 days later finished shooting the movie. Oh yeah!
Then began the almost impossible editing process, which took years since I continued working as a freelance editor during the day, while editing the movie at nights and weekends.
The music was composed by a Latin Grammy winner songwriter, and two incredible and talented musicians / producers.
What we need to finish
Sound Design: it's where all the sounds are added to the film: such as footsteps, doors opening and closing, cars passing by, the sound of someone typing in a computer, all sound effects as gun shots, explosions, etc. Voice Over is also part of this process: were the voice of the actors has to be re-recorded in studio.
Sound Mix: All the different sounds are "mixed together" so everything can be heard clearly. For example, in an action scene the punches, kicks are louder. In a conversation the voices take center stage.
Color Correction: this is were the colours of the shots are treated to create a "feeling". Horror movies are darker compared to romantic comedies for example. One can make a scene feel warmer by bringing the orange tones up and blue/grey tones down. Or viceversa to make a scene feel colder.
Here are some examples of our colour correction:
Visual Effects: Some visual effects have already been finalised, but we have lots more to finish. Here's a short sample of some of the effects all ready finalised:
How will the money be spent?
To finish the movie we need $8,159 US dollars. To produce the rewards and ship everything to each backer, we need 4 thousand US dollars. That brings us to a total of USD$12,159.00. Which includes the 5% Kickstarter fee, 5% payment processing fee, and 5% contingency.
We have spoken with all the parties involved, and if there aren't any delays we can start delivering all the items in January 2018.
Risks and challenges
Los Futbolistas is an ambitious project. Few would attempt a movie of such a massive scale (48 actors, 30+ locations, etc). But that doesn't mean it's impossible. The GREAT NEWS is that Los Futbolistas has been shot and edited in its entirety. We're very close to the finish line. We hope that you feel as inspired as we do and become part of our team of futbolistas so we can make history together with the completion of this feature film.
Since I'm from Colombia, I have schedule finishing the movie there since prices are lower than Los Angeles (where I've lived since 2004). I visited different post-production houses in Bogotá and found not only great ones, but people who loved the movie too and want to be part of it.
We have also met with a movie theatre chain in Colombia that has expressed a strong will to show the movie once it's completed. So there is a BIG chance of seeing the movie in theatres.
Thank you so much for all your support.
Seriously, muchas gracias :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
