Sixty years ago, the Forest Goddess "disappeared" and since then the Elders of August's village require lineage to define one's profession. For August, he is being trained as a hunter, just like his ancestors. Unfortunately, August is terrible. After being killed trying to save one of his hunting companions, August is revived by the shape shifting Forest Goddess, Elu. As a result, August has strange powers that allow him to speak magical languages, bend plants to his will, and feel the pain of the forest and its creatures. He is determined to stop these powers and the only way to do this is to convince the Hunters to stop going into the forest. When tragedy strikes the village, August is cast out into the forest to appease it. Together, Elu and August seek to restore balance to the forest and the village.

Here's the first 2 pages:

The Idea:My best friend and I were talking about steampunk fairytale retellings and Beauty and the Beast came up. I have ideas for plenty more, but Beauty and the Beast stuck with me. I wondered what would happen if I switched the genders. We often see Beauty as a woman and the Beast as a male, but what if it was the other way around? Who would really be the "Beauty" and who would be the "Beast" in this case? As I wrote to find the answer, the story became something more than I was ever expecting.

These funds will go towards helping to finish Chapter 2 and complete Book 1. It would be ideal to raise the entire cost of creating a graphic novel, but since this is my first kickstarter, I am raising enough funds to supplement the creation of this graphic novel. If I surpass the funding goal, the money will be used to complete the Beyond Beauty Graphic Novel, reward fulfillment, then other projects.
Kickstarter fees and amazon processing fees are 3-5%.
$4200 of the money will be going to the artist.
Any thing over that will help with postage and reward fulfillment. Any money over the funding goal will go towards rewards and funding future Beyond Beauty chapters.
Risks and challenges
A potential challenge or risk is simply the artist trying to get work out in a timely manner. My artist, Crystal Jayme, is an incredibly talented artist who works fast, but she is also human and she does have a number of her own personal projects going on. There may be points in time where she needs to take a break and I will respect her wishes for that.
What happens if this project is not funded? I will not stop writing the comic, but production will be slow going with lots of hiatuses as I will have to come out of pocket to create these pages. A story that might have taken 4-5 months to finish up may take a little over a year because of funding. You do not have to worry about the comic being cancelled because of lack of funding. But if you enjoy the comic, I hope that you'll contribute.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
