About this project
WHAT IS A KALIPAK?
The KaliPAK, is an Incredibly Lightweight, Portable Energy Generator That Uses Folding Solar Panels.
KaliPAK has been featured on FastCompany, Outside Mag, Treehugger and others!
WHAT CAN I USE IT FOR?
The KaliPAK was designed to respond to multiple use cases:
If you’ve ever survived a natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy or last year’s Oklahoma City tornado, you know that the worry and hardships don’t end when the weather clears. It’s not uncommon to be knocked off the energy grid for days or even weeks, before line crews can restore power. Batteries will get you through a few hours, but then what?
Unlike gas generators, the KaliPAK is lightweight and completely self-sustainable, thanks to highly-efficient solar panels which fold away when not in use. You can also charge the KaliPAK from a wall outlet or from your car lighter-socket.
The KaliPAK will also be popular with outdoor enthusiasts and campers who don’t want to give up essential electrical devices. And extreme sports users will appreciate the self-sufficiency, as will rescue teams, energy tactical units, field engineers, and environmental missions operating in places where electrical infrastructure is non-existent.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?
You can charge multiple devices - everything that can be charged from a USB or a car-lighter socket. In addition, fully charged, the KaliPAK can provide 200 hours of strong LED Bulb (included), or 60 hours of powerful LED Floodlight (available for purchase) with power to spare to charge phones, radios, or laptops. Numbers below relate to a fully-charged KaliPAK 601:
MOTTO: USER FREINDLY
Our design team gets quite picky when it comes to user experience. So we had to adhere to highly functional and easy-to-use standards, and create a most simple yet functional dashboard:
WHY IS THE KALIPAK UNIQUE?
The KaliPAK has the best energy/weight ratio (600Wh/13 lb., 400Wh/10 lb.) on the market, weighing around half the weight of similar products, making it easy to carry as a backpack using the designated Raincoat featuring ultra-comfort backpack shoulder straps.
A patent-pending fixture holds the enclosed solar panels in the most direct, efficient angle for solar charging, which takes around one sunny day to almost fully recharge the battery.
Other unique features:
- 4X USB fast-charge ports - all four ports can simultaneously charge the most demanding USB devices: Tablets, iPads, and more.
- Best-of-breed Korean/Japanese-made battery Lithium-Ion cells
- All strict US/EU safety certifications compliant
- Real-time indicator of best solar charging via smartphone App.
- You can simultaneously charge the pack (Solar or other) while using the pack for light, charging electronic devices or other
- Smart-compartment design enable storing your accessories: from First-aid kit through Satellite phone to Car Jump Starter.
You can charge about 85% of the KaliPAK 401 battery in a sunny day.

The KaliAPP: MANAGE YOUR ENERGY FROM YOUR SMARTPHONE
Another unique feature is integrated Bluetooth, which lets the generator pair with your iOS or Android smartphone. Via a free downloadable app, you can control and monitor the energy levels of your KaliPAK, adjust the solar fixture for best charging, and even activate an emergency beacon.

THE POWER-AFRICA INITIATIVE
Your backing will allow us to deliver KaliPAKs to African communities who lack energy infrastructure and make their life a little easier.
Powering African communities is a novel idea but also poses a major logistic challenge. To make sure that KaliPAK’s will find their way to the right people, we teamed up with some friends who know their way around the continent:
With the great help of our friends and partners from Vital Capital Fund, we will ship, upon successful funding of our project one kaliPAK for every fifty produced, and a minimum of ten, to electricity-challenged communities in Africa through the fund's philanthropic arms in Africa. Such is "the Fundacao art and culture" an NGO based in Luanda, Angola, which initiates and manages dozens of philanthropic health, educational and cultural initiatives for the benefit of the children, men and women of Angola.
Vital Capital is an Impact Investment fund focused on sub-Sahara Africa, aiming to do good while doing well. To learn more go to: http://www.vital-capital.com/
WHAT ARE MY REWARDS FOR PLEDGING?
Your backing is so greatly appreciated, and will allow us to bring the KaliPAK to market in large quantities and provide a valid solution to communities and individuals' off-the-grid energy needs - for emergency situations or just so you'll be able to keep the fun going.
Our very special Early Backers – the Visionaries and the Energy Champions, will be invited to participate in this thrilling and mind-boggling experience of bringing yet another helpful product to people.
WHAT'S THE GAME PLAN?
Risks and challenges
We developed a prototype and fiercely tested it.
We are CE, RoHS compliant, passed all tests.
We are eco-aware and comply with strict environmental guidelines to the extent possible.
We technically resolved all challenges.
We are committed to Social and Global Responsobility (See the PowerAfrica Initiative)
However, as with many early stage ventures, the future poses risks next to opportunities.
Some of this risks include:
1. Third Party Suppliers
We are relying on several third party suppliers for critical elements such Batteries, Solar Panels and Molds. We do try, pending budget limitations, not to be dependant on a single source for any element in our product.
However, if a third party supplier fails, or goes out of business, we will undergo some expected delays in our production.
2. Changes in Regulations and Legislations.
Slim chances, but batteries, electric components and solar panels are subject to changes in regulation from time to time. Such changes may impose delays in production time.
3. Patents and IP
We have conducted several patent searches (Conducted by the Intellectual Property Specialists - the Law firm of Soroker-Agmaon, Israel) - in order to confirm we can register our own patent, design patents and trademarks. However, these searches are limited by nature - and there might be a theoretical possibility that we are stepping on someone's toes. In such case, we will need to re-design or alter, or pay royalties. In the rare case that any of these scenarios will mean risking our business existence - we will seek alternative solutions.
4. Shipping to international backers
Though we have been shipping Lithium Ion batteries for a while, the regulations vary and are ever-changing. We closely monitor these changes and work with our international shippers to ensure delivery to our international backers. please contact us at email@example.com to get an updated infromation regarding shipping to your country
