If you know me personally, you would have to say that I have "gone to the birds." You could verify this by looking into my blog, http://arlenepowers.wordpress.com there you will find paintings, ramblings, and random thoughts about birds.
If you just want to check out my avian art, please take a look at my website: www.arlenepowers.com Once again, you will notice a common theme. Birds are amazing creatures, full of personality and intelligence.
They do a lot more than just fly and sit on a stick! The challenge is to capture the personality of each bird I paint or draw. The work shows more life if I can capture an expression or behavior to lend a more artistic quality to the finished piece.
This series of Arizona Native birds is very important to me, since I am very involved with wildlife rehabilitation. Disappearing habitat is a continuing issue which needs to be addressed for each of these Native Birds. Education and awareness must be fostered, so that some day our grandchildren will be able to see these birds in the wild.
The Audubon show will be a great chance to present my artwork to a "bird friendly" audience. Only 25 to 30 artists are juried into this show, so it is an honor to be chosen. Please help me to finish this "Native Bird" watercolor project.
Most of the paintings are done, a good part of the Prints and Cards are ready; however, your funds will help provide a few more art supplies to complete the project, a good supply of High Quality Prints and Note Cards to sell at this show, and the wonderful rewards I have put together for you! Your funding help will make the difference between a good show, and a GREAT show. Having worked on this series since January, my blog has held me accountable to produce work each week. All of my marketing materials are being revamped, and I am asking for a boost from you to help complete this project and show off the beauty of these flying wonders.
Most of you know that with Kickstarter funding, it is ALL or NOTHING! SO I need help from each one of you! Any amount is appreciated, so I have put together some AWESOME rewards for your funding! Together we all win!
Let me leave you with this prose inspired by the Wild Native Birds:
Feathered brothers and sisters, you came to us broken and as you bled…….we saw you desperate, dehydrated, desiccated, diseased, distressed, emaciated, famished, frayed, frightened, helpless, hungry, ragged, ravenous, shaken, shocked, shot, sickly, stressed, stunned, tattered, thirsty, traumatized, torn, weary and wounded. Defiantly, you stood us off with your last breath as we tried to tend to you. We saw you come in as cute, naked, fuzzy, cuddly youth, as mischievous, defiant adolescents, as fierce, regal rulers of the sky and as cunning, maimed elders whose time on earth was almost done. You endeared yourselves to us, bit us, charmed us, footed us, delighted us, hissed at us, talked to us, mantled at us, and graced us with your presence. Some of you mended and were able to go on your way, never looking back. Some of you were injured in ways that prevented you from going, so you stayed with us to teach us…….And we came to love you. Others were too far gone, and you went home - where you fly free from pain with the Great One. All of you have touched us, and we are changed because of you.
