Maybe you're like me and got used to living half big and half small. Maybe you're like me and get a little fearful that you're too much, too big, too loud. Did I mention too much? Maybe you're like me and have gotten a glimpse of who you really are meant to be in flashes and moments and on really good days. Maybe it scared you a little bit so you went back to feeling small.
But then again, maybe you liked that real you and that feeling of brightness and electricity. Maybe you wonder, like I do, what it would be like to live that electricity all the time. Are you waiting for the world to invite you to show up as the REAL YOU? A voice booming, "Will the REAL HOPE DUNBAR please stand up?"
Yes, yes I will. I think it's time to live like bigness and brightness from now on. If we're in an energy crisis, then I've decided I'ma keep my OWN LIGHTS ON, YO!!!!!
I'm making two new records of brand new music. First, a folk album of song commissions titled, "You Let the Light In." After the release of "Three Black Crows" in the fall of 2017, I spent much of 2018 writing twelve commission songs. They are story songs, love songs, songs of triumph, fun, the challenges of every day life and remembering the important people who make our days and years so precious. I call my style of music New American Prairie and, this time the skies are bluer, the air is sweeter and life is good. I can't wait for you to hear them. I'm scheduled for Nashville in November to start tracking.
The second record I'm calling "Sweetheartland." It's a collection of mostly newer compositions along with a couple of older songs that, I think, need a makeover- specifically, "Woman Like Me" from the EP by the same name and "Dust" from the "The End of Wanting" EP. It's a funky little collection of country up-tempo stuff including 2019 Kerrville New Folk Song finalist "The Road Is." In this second record, the New American Prairie style feels strong and true and isn't afraid of having fun!
My gut tells me the time is now to commit to these projects and see them through to the end no matter what. I've spent too many years looking to my left and to my right to see which cool cat might be walking in the room with Wayfarers on, but not anymore. I'm trusting my work, I'm trusting my heart and making the music I want to make. It's a new era, y'all. And it starts right now.
This Kickstarter campaign funding will go towards the studio time, producer's fees, musicians, engineers, the mixing and mastering for TWO records.
Unlike my previous Kickstarter campaign for 2017's "Three Black Crows" record, this time I'm starting from scratch which means that when you back this project, you will get a front row seat to the creation of these two new albums from start to finish. Pretty cool.
THERE'S MUSIC EVERYWHERE! I'm putting together a 5 song Christmas EP as a reward at the $125.00 and higher! That EP will ship BEFORE the other two albums so you've got new music to listen to while you wait. Oh boy!
I have a stretch goal of $22,000 that will allow me to offer a couple more super sweet merch rewards AND finance the radio and print promotion of the records.
Risks and challenges
I have recording dates scheduled, producers and engineers chosen, mixing professionals slated for each project. However, no plan is free from unexpected changes and delays. If anything, delays will come in post-production and the biggest risk is the possibility of postponing the release of the records.
My project hangs on the intention of getting both records to my backers and fans at the same time. I want to do everything in my power to make that goal achievable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
