About this project
Shipwrecked Comedy has got a hot take on a cold case, see? It's a classic Hollywood whodunit, but private dick Ford Phillips can’t solve it without your help! A young starlet is in trouble. What gives with her suspicious co-star? Will that sultry lounge singer be singing to the coppers? How deep does this rabbit hole go? We got plenty of questions, but we only get the answers if we hit our Kickstarter goal, see? And if we don’t, we'll have to pack up our hat boxes and get out while the getting's good.
Hot on the heels of our crowdfunded and now award-winning series Edgar Allan Poe’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party, Shipwrecked Comedy is excited to explore new territory with this noir-inspired short film that we’ll be premiering at Buffer Festival in Toronto! Written by Sean and Sinead Persaud and produced by Mary Kate Wiles and Sarah Grace Hart, the Poe Party production team, led by William Joseph Stribling, will be reunited to make more mysterious magic—only this time we’re in 1939 Old Hollywood, and everybody’s got something to hide. Mystery, glitz, and Tinseltown glam—and we want to bring you along for the ride.
$25,000 might seem like a lot of dough for a short film, but it's the absolute minimum we need to make a project of this size. We'll be employing multiple locations, fancy noir lighting tricks, and a team of expert cast and crew - everything we can to make this short look as snazzy as possible on a shoestring budget. And if we make more than that? Hot dog! The more presidents you send us, the better this little film will be. And of course, we couldn’t launch a Kickstarter without some surprises up our sleeve—for every $5,000 we raise, we’ll add a new suspect to our lineup. Who’s going to be involved? You’ll have to help us hit our goal to find out. Here comes the low down on how the loot will be spent:
We're excited to see this next chapter of the Shipwrecked Comedy story unfold, and you can come along for the ride. Contribute and get connected to our team and our process over the next few months: get behind the scenes access, posters, merchandise, and maybe even the chance to sling back a couple of gin rickeys with us. So shake a leg!
We've reached our original funding goal of $25,000!! We have been so blown away by the support and we can't thank you all enough.
Of course, $25,000 was the bare minimum we needed to make this short. And while we're ecstatic that we know for sure we'll be producing The Case of the Gilded Lily, we're still going to keep raising those funds so we can turn out the best little film we possibly can. On that note, here's what we'll be giving you if we hit our next milestones!
SUNSET BOULEVARD - $30K - ACHIEVED: If you get us to $30,000, the Shipwrecked crew will record a series of vlogs taking you around some of their favorite Hollywood haunts and hangouts. Places that inspired them growing up outside of LA and that inspire them now as they live here.
THIS GUN FOR HIRE - $35K - ACHIEVED: If we hit $35,000, everyone's favorite BTS photographer and hype man, CHRISTOPHER HIGGINS, will once again be flown out to document the Gilded Lily shoot. He'll be taking his trademark gorgeous photos and will shoot and produce Behind the Scenes Features exclusively for backers who pledged $25 dollars and up.
OUT OF THE PAST - $40K: At $40,000, we'll add a new character to the short - a surprise cameo of a real life Old Hollywood legend.
THE BIG COMBO - $45K: $45,000 smackers will get you a scene or trailer from one of Wilhelmina Vanderjetski and Cliff Calloway's hit movies. We won't have time to get to them in the short, but this way, you'll be able to see what all the fuss is about!
BLADE RUNNER - $50K: This is it. The big one. The motherload. Shipwrecked director and hirsute hipster William Joseph Stribling will SHAVE HIS BEARD! He has had this thing for years and we're not sure we'll recognize him without it. Let's make it happen.
THE BIG SLEEP - $100K: Look, if we make $100,000 to fund this short, we will definitively solve the case of the Black Dahlia. No more questions, no more mystery. We will just tell you who did it.
It's the final week of the campaign, and you know what that means - it's time for add-on perks. Here's the swell loot you can make out with if you add to your original pledge: sorry, no tie-clips.
$10 Add-On - Gilded Lily Collector Pin: Tack on a Hamilton and BAM, you get to show your Fig and Ford flair with this Gilded Lily collector pin (shown below). Just make sure you don't wear it around the wrong part of town, you hear? They don't take too kindly to "collectors" around some parts.
$15 Add-On - Digital Wallpaper: Fork over 15 to dazzle your chums with these exclusive, limited edition digital wallpapers featuring the Gilded Lily cast for your computer or phone. They're gonna wanna know "gee, where'd you get those," "hey, how can an average joe or jill like me get my own," and "what's a computer or phone?" Best not disappoint 'em.
$35 Add-On - Additional Character Poster: 35: It ain't just the year the Hoover Dam was completed, see? We got a lot of suspects in this crazy case, and if you want to keep track of them, you're gonna need more than one (unsigned) character poster. Never fear, gumshoe: make yourself 35 green backs lighter and you'll be on your way to starting your very own suspect board.
How to add "Add-Ons"
- Go to 'Manage Your Pledge'
- Increase your pledge in the Pledge Amount Box by the total $ amount of your desired add-ons
- After the campaign ends, you'll get a backer survey to fill out
- In that survey, you'll specify which add-ons you chose
REMINDER: Only change your pledge amount, not the reward tier. If an add-on could bump your pledge into a higher reward tier, be sure not to change your reward selection to that tier or we'll send you everything in that higher reward tier instead of your add-ons!

Risks and challenges
This town is full of risks and dripping with challenges. We eat 'em for breakfast, along with bacon, eggs, and whiskey. We roll 'em up in the cheapest paper we can find and smoke 'em under a flickering street lamp.
We love risks and challenges.
Like any film production, we may lose actors to spiffier gigs or complicated blackmail schemes. Crew members may find higher paying and more stable jobs or bodies in their trunks, which may result in overly intricate murder investigations.
Listen bub, we want to make the best project possible and that means we need to be prepared for anything.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
