What is it like to use Orosound earphones for the first time?
Tilde wireless earphones are the first earphones to turn active noise cancellation into real noise management technology. You can choose what you hear according to your needs in real time:
Orosound’s Talk-in-Noise patented technology is directional and selective. With its 8 microphones, Tilde’s Talk-in-Noise mode enhances the voice of the person you’re facing while still blocking out unwanted noise. Communicate effectively in loud environments, just by clicking a button.
Tilde’s adjustable active noise cancellation technology lets you cancel up to 30dB of noise. It is particularly effective at canceling out frequencies of human voices (1 to 3 kHz) and getting rid of the distracting noise of people talking. Move the slider and choose how much background noise you want as you work.
Have you ever tried plugging your ears and saying something out loud? It sort of sounds like you’re underwater. That weird sound distortion is called the occlusion effect and Tilde’s multi-step noise cancellation system gets rid of it. No need to slide or click anything: hear everything as naturally as if you had nothing in your ears.
Tilde can stream high quality audio from any Bluetooth® enabled device. HiFi balanced armature speakers make your music sound great. With background noise reduction, echo cancellation, and 8 microphones, calls are crystal clear to you and to whomever you’re talking to, on the phone or on any conference call App.
You can take Tilde everywhere: on your commute, at the office, in cafés, on long walks, on planes… You can even take them to noisy restaurants and bars. Tilde has long battery life (8 hours with heavy use), is small, lightweight (40 grams) and sweatproof.

We created Tilde earphones in close collaboration with Parisian product designers Eliumstudio, who helped us find a unique design that’s both elegant and comfortable. We’ve gotten great feedback about Tilde already. In the two years that Orosound has been around, we’ve been lucky enough to get support from world-class associations, file two international patents, and win national and international awards. And we’re proud to say that in January, we’ll be at CES 2017 as an official FrenchTech startup!
Orosound’s proprietary noise management technology is based on a dual-chip parallel processing : a Cortex-M4 micro-processor and a low latency (few microseconds) digital signal processor (DSP).
The micro-processor computes high level directional and selection audio features from the 6 external MEMS microphones arranged in a beamforming array. It identifies incoming signals either as noise or as useful sounds. This identification process is based on the signals’ temporal characteristics and spectral coherence.
Bluetooth® audio sources (music or telephony) are mixed in the micro-processor and transmitted to the DSP for further enhancement. All chip-to-chip audio communications follow the i2s full-duplex protocol.
Orosound’s patented selective, directional technology is the first to let you simultaneously apply different kinds of noise processing systems to different kinds of noise. It allows you to cancel out background noise while enhancing sounds you want to hear.
Tilde’s innovative Talk-in-Noise mode uses this technology to enhance the voice of the person you’re facing with noise cancellation on. It allows you to focus on sounds in a 60° cone with a 12 dB sound-to-noise ratio increase.
Active noise control technology (ANC) processes ambient sounds to generate an “opposite sound”: a sound wave that has the same amplitude and is 180 degrees out of phase with the unwanted sound.
Orosound’s hybrid technology combines digital feedforward and feedback loops to make the noise cancellation more effective and suppress the occlusion effect when your ears are plugged. It allows at least 30 dB of noise attenuation for frequencies between 100 Hz and 10 kHz. And to fit to the situation you can linearly adjust it down to 0 dB attenuation.
Orosound’s patented ANC technology is especially good at processing the sound of voices. Between 1 and 3 kHz (the range of frequencies where speech is most audible), our noise cancellation is more than 10 dB more powerful than leading noise canceling headphones. Our noise cancellation at frequencies above and below that range is the same as leading brands.
- Fully adjustable active noise control: From 0 to at least 30 dB attenuation for frequencies between 100 Hz and 10 kHz
- Directional Talk-in-Noise mode: With 12 dB SNR ratio increase in a 60° cone
- High sound sensitivity: 116 dB SPL @ 1 kHz, 100 mVrms
- Almost no total harmonic distortion: <1% from 100 Hz to 10 kHz @ 94 dB SPL
- Ultra-fast noise cancellation: 192 kHz sampling
- Diffuse field equalized frequency response: +/- 3 dB from 10 Hz to 12 kHz

Our CEO has been working in noise cancelling headphone conception, development, and mass production for over 10 years, and we’ve been working on the technology and design of our earphones for two years with a team of dedicated experts. We have working prototypes already and have a great relationship with our manufacturers.
Every Kickstarter endeavor has its risks and challenges—you just don’t have many with us!

Light and Compact vs. Battery Life
Our earphones’ technology is a complex system that takes up both physical space and battery power. We’ve already done extensive testing and prototyping to make it as compact and light as possible, and as of now, the battery lasts about 8 hours with heavy use. We’re in the final stages of development, so any tweaks we make to our system will be small, and we will factor size, weight, and battery life into everything that we do.
Our manufacturers are headphone specialists and are just waiting on an order number to start making our earphones. We’re confident that they will be able to meet the challenge of producing as many as we need. We’ve taken every measure possible to prevent delays, but it is always possible that production won’t go quite as quickly as planned. We want to get our earphones to you as soon as possible, but even more than speed, we value excellence. Our top priority is to bring you an outstanding product, and we will do everything in our power to get it to you as quickly as possible.
