About this project
UPDATE : We can now announce that the awesome Robert LLewellyn (AKA Kryten from Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge, Car Pool etc... ) is officially part of the cast! Woohoo
The Hit Squad is a feature length comedy movie about a washed up 80s synthpop band trying to get one last hit to save their recording studio from falling into the hands of their evil corporate rivals Scourge. Sex-addict Roddy Stones and his two bandmates, East-London thug Frank and deluded manchild Charles Whitecastle, find out that they need one week to get back their fame, fortune and the keys to the infamous 'Fun Cupboard'.
With an awesome faux-80's soundtrack and bags of pop-culture nods, the movie will be super turbo rad!
The Hit Squad is being made with 8 bit pixel art much like the videogames of the 1980s and 90s, the era The Hit Squad knew best. This pixel art is then animated into Adobe After Effects. It is pretty much me (director Chris Blundell) doing all of the animating and drawing at the moment, At this point we need to bring on some people to help get the movie finished.
Yes! So far we have Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf, Scarheap Challenge, Junkyard Wars etc...) confirmed. There will be more to come, we will be making some announcements as soon as we confirm.
Imagine the best 80's tunes you ever heard, imagine all the sex, glitter, emotion, money, dancing and crying and put them all together in a big pot. Then push the turbo bass on that pot and let it boil. That is the Hit Squad soundtrack.
Look at all the sweet stuff you can get for pledging!
Other than the obvious pledging, telling people about it REALLY helps, spreading the link through Facebook/Twitter etc. If you want to talk to me about some other way to help, please tweet me or email me (chris [AT] ilovethehitsquad.com)
Risks and challenges
I have been making this movie on my own since September, the money raised will help pay for help with the finalising of the movie, animation and sound specifically. Having a small team helps to keep things simple and streamlined, but it does have it's drawbacks. If one person gets knocked out of commission from illness or some other unforeseeable pitfall, it can have a huge impact on the entire production, as they are responsible for a large percentage of the total workload. I will be looking for some volunteers to add a helping hand so that production can continue uninterrupted should the worst happen.
I will also need to find the right distributor to help get the movie out in the right way, someone who sees online as the future, the way we do. We're in talks with a few interested parties, but nothing's been signed yet.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
