The Crime Fighter Inquiry is a comic book project from writer Bill Zanowitz and artist Mark Parmon.Bill is the co-host of the Comic Book Bears and T.H.U.N.D.E.R.C.A.S.T. and whose past works as a comic writer have appeared in the Low Concept and Bandthology projects from King Bone Press and in the acclaimed POWER collection from GeeksOUT.Mark is best known as the writer and artist of the online comic, Grizzly & The Bear Patrol. They have teamed up to tell the story of Lou Giannetti. Lou is a middle aged divorced father of two who leads a fairly unspectacular life. That is until the death of his grandfather sparks a series of events that totally alters his world in ways he could never have imagined. In dealing with his grandfather’s estate he learns that his grandfather led a very different life than he had assumed. He discovers that, for a short time in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, there actually were costumed heroes on the streets of a few American cities. Lou also discovers what led to their sudden disappearance, the role his family members played in these events and that there are ramifications which last to the present day. And what follows in The Crime Fighter Inquiry is a story that shifts back and forth in time and place from Wilmington Delaware after World War Two to the Playboy Club in Chicago in the early seventies to the present day and is filled with action, mystery and a little bit of humor.
The first time that a number of the characters that exist in the world of The crime Fighter Inquiry appeared was in a six page prologue story in the Low Concept 3 anthology trade paperback that was released a couple of years ago from King Bone Press. Unfortunately, the print edition of this book has long been sold out. As part of this campaign you will see that we have provided the prologue for free (as well as on our Facebook and Tumblr pages) so that you have a sense of the flavor and the scope of the story Mark and Bill are hoping to tell. If you enjoy tales about super-heroes in a very traditional sense, there is something here for you. If you enjoy books loaded with conspiracies and secret histories there is something here for you. If you enjoy stories about the bonds of family there is something here for you. And if reading about a cold blooded assassin who can charm the pants off of you before he pulls the trigger is in your wheelhouse, there is something here for you as well.
The Crime Fighter Inquiry is envisioned as a six issue black and white series with color exteriors and we have started this campaign to fund the printing of the first issue. The Crime Fighter Inquiry is a book for mature audiences due to some coarse language and adult sexual situations.
Help us make this happen! We have a set a number of incentive levels with a wide variety of rewards. Hopefully one of the reward levels will be just right for you to contribute to.
THE CRIME FIGHTER INQUIRY: PROLOGUE
We appreciate every dollar and everyone who helps spread the word. We do not believe it is the sole purpose of crowdfunding to fully fund a product that we intend to sell later at a profit. Your pledges will help us get the first issue of the series printed, send out review copies and help us be able to sell the books to shops at a discount rate (after all Kickstarter copies have been distributed) without taking a loss.
You will notice that we have not provided shipping for some rewards outside of the U.S. and Canada. We attempted to establish a flat rate for non-domestic shipping and apologize for not being able to provide that for each reward level for.
Risks and challenges
As with all Kickstarters, unforeseen delays may occur. Our goal is to have The Crime Fighter Inquiry #1 into the hands of our backers by February of 2016. We have collaborated closely with friends who have had successful comic book Kickstarters in the past and have paid close attention to their takeaways in planning this campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
