A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

It all started with a simple question: Why do we carry gas, alcohol and other refined fuel over long distances although biomass fuel is abundant in many places?
The answer is simple: Biomass combustion is hard to control. The power fluctuates and the fire needs constant tending, it produces smoke, soot and tar, and it leaves burnt spots. The FYRO Stove development started as a hobby project to control the complex physics and chemistry of the combustion process. Our challenge was to achieve stable power, long burn time, instant power control and a clean flame using only simple physical feedback effects.
As our development progressed, we decided to make it professional and develop the stove as a product. For our unique combustion technology we filed a patent application. Together with the design firm BRAUNWAGNER and Designwerkstatt Schneider, we went from simple models that show the combustion technology and basic use to a real design prototype that is very close to a final product both in looks and functionality.

It works reliably with many different types of biomass fuel and you can use any fire starting method you like. The novel design with a three-stage combustion process gives a powerful and clean flame that starts up with virtually no smoke in just a few minutes and burns stable for more than an hour until the next refueling.
From searing to simmering, the stove will keep your desired power level constant so that you can focus on preparing fresh, delicious meals without having to worry about maintaining the fire. In essence, the FYRO stove combines the advantages of wood fuel with the convenience of a conventional stove.
Just place a griddle instead of a pot on the stove. Since it heats up quickly, you will be ready to go less than ten minutes. The powerful flame drives the griddle to the temperature for a perfect sear, much hotter than a regular frying pan. That creates the delicious barbecue flavors without exposing your food to harmful smoke from burning fat. Perfect for fatty cuts like pork belly! Reduce the power if you’d like to continue cooking at lower temperature after the first sear. That is particularly convenient for larger pieces, vegetables and fish.
For your campfire
You can burn wood in the stove body without the secondary combustor and use it as a fire pit. The orange-hot focused combustion zone in the narrow combustion chamber reliably consumes larger pieces of wood without an elaborate fire build. Just add a new log from time to time to maintain the fire for a relaxed and care-free camp fire experience. Only ashes remain after the stove has burned out.
Biomass is inherently safer than any other fuel. Unlike diesel or gasoline, wood is simply a part of your natural outdoor environment and safe to transport and handle. The FYRO stove has no pressurized parts and cannot leak, unlike a gas stove. Therefore the stove is perfectly acceptable for air travel and other means of transport. The combustion chamber is closed off with grids and insulating walls so that the fire is reliably contained. The stable feet keep it safely supported.
With the FYRO Stove you have all the flexibility for creative projects. Searing steaks, flambé, wild food: Move your cooking outdoors and show your guests and family a great time!
Despite the simple appearance, the FYRO stove is based on an intricate balance of forces that keep the combustion at its ideal setpoint. The combustion is separated into a primary pyrolysis step, secondary combustion with pre-heated air, and final burn under the pot.
The fuel arrangement in the primary chamber ensures a gradual burn and recirculates the pyrolysis gases for a cleaner flame.
The slider changes the geometry of the carefully designed mixing nozzle, which controls the pyrolysis rate in the primary combustion chamber and mixes the gas stream with preheated secondary air.
A voluminous secondary combustion chamber with an optimized flame holder lifts the secondary air through the preheater with an injection pump effect, quickly ignites a stable flame and ensures a complete combustion of the pyrolysis gases.
But you don’t have to worry about the complexity of biomass combustion. Using the stove is straightforward and you can focus on your cooking!

We have an expert estimate of the manufacturing cost and are making progress in choosing a manufacturer. Since German industry is focused on cars and machinery, we are looking for manufacturing abroad.

We both love outdoor life, cooking and being entrepreneurs. We met during university and did a PhD in Materials Science at the Jülich Research Center. FYRO is a project of our joint business Bond Consulting.
Dieter has work experience as a product manager for high-tech equipment. While devoting most of his time to FYRO at the moment, he still continues to manage development projects at the Jülich Research Center, in particular LiberTEM.

In order to handle the fulfillment process and keep you informed about the project's progress, we collect your name, shipping address, e-mail address and possibly phone number and/or identifiers for other means of communication. In case we offer refunds, we collect payment information. We share this information with third parties such as logistics partners or payment processors strictly with the purpose to fulfill our rewards or transfer funds. We won't use your data for other purposes than management of the campaign and fulfillment, unless you give us explicit consent.

Being professionals in product development, we know that the work is only done when you are happy with what you received. We'll be very cautious with your pledges and keep our burn rate low to make sure that the funds will take us to that final goal, knowing full well that the road ahead can be a bumpy one.
We are thoroughly testing the FYRO Stove prototypes and establishing professional quality control measures for manufacturing, including buffer time for a slow production ramp-up to fix smaller issues. Nevertheless, we might run into technical difficulties during manufacturing that need fixing with stoves after they are delivered. In that case we'll hold any pending deliveries until the issues are fixed and work towards solutions for the stoves that are already shipped, such as spare parts. Engineering for durability, knowledge of ageing mechanisms at high temperatures in the chemical environment of a combustion process, and suitable testing protocols for such products are part of our know-how as materials scientists. We'll keep you informed and work hard to keep our schedules.
On the business side, the reward tiers and pledges are calculated to be financially viable so that we can make sure we can deliver them as promised. Still, it is possible that delivering the rewards might become more expensive than anticipated due to some unforeseen circumstances. That could lead to delays as we scramble to find alternative solutions. In the last consequence we might have to offer refunds for some of the rewards.
We are currently relying on single sources for our parts and the assembly to remain efficient for smaller volumes. If one of our manufacturing partners runs into difficulties to deliver, we might have to look for alternatives, which would introduce delays.
If the demand is higher than expected so that we are significantly overfunded, we might have to deliver rewards stretched over a period of time to manage our manufacturing and logistics capacity.
Generally, we will keep you informed when we encounter delays or difficulties. So far we always made the experience that taking enough time to do a good job and deliver an excellent product a bit later is better than premature delivery and cutting too many corners.
The outdoor cooking weekend reward needs at least three participants per event for locations other than our home state Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany. If there aren't enough backers for this reward tier for some locations, we'll work towards a solution with you, in the last case a refund.
We spend the weekend on a campground, collect wild food and cook delicious meals with the FYRO Stove.
Included are meals and one overnight stay. Not included are traveling costs. The primary locations are in GERMANY, Northrhine-Westphalia, SWITZERLAND, Emmental region, and SCANDINAVIA, southern Sweden. We can organize more events in additional locations in Europe with at least five backers per event.
We will distribute a reward survey to organize the details in due time.
