UPDATE!! Every backer will now get an immediate free download of our two previous releases - "Dreamcatcher EP" and our new single "Monster". That's 6 songs for free right now! So even if you only pledge $5, you'll get every Valise song released to date AND the new album next year. That's a LOT of music for a LITTLE money. Just our way to say thanks for your support!
The Story So Far...
In January 2011, we left Texas and headed to Florida to record four songs, just for fun, with no clear intention to be a full-time band. Within the first few days, we knew we were on to something. The feeling of creating new music out of thin air was addicting. We were hooked, and those four songs went on to become our debut "Dreamcatcher EP."
The past year and a half since we released "Dreamcatcher EP" has been an unbelievable journey for us, our families, and our friends. We've trekked through the country to show people our music, shared the stage with bands we used to watch from the crowd, and most importantly, we've made incredible new friends and fans along the way. Our "addiction" to creating music has become our dream, and we are fully aware that we wouldn't be able to live out this dream without your support.
As exciting as the past two years have been for us, it's nothing compared to what's coming in 2013. We have a lot in store for next year, but first and foremost, it all starts with a new album!
The Next Chapter...
This coming January - just two short months from now - we'll be heading back to Florida for eight straight weeks, to fulfill a lifelong dream of recording a full-length record. After months of writing new material, the songs have finally come together to make an album that we will be proud to call our first, and we can't wait to share it with you.
So, at the start of the new year, we'll be narrowing down our new songs to our ten favorites and begin recording with producer Matt Wilbur at The Vanguard Room in Lakeland, FL. Matt has been with us since the beginning, and we're confident that he's the right person to bring the vision we have for the album to life.
Here's Where You Come In...
As you can imagine, releasing an album as an independent is an exciting but daunting task. We will have the final say on every aspect of the record, from song choice to album art to advertising, but that also means we will need to fund the entire operation ourselves. Unfortunately, the overall cost of studio time, mixing, mastering, art design, and manufacturing is just more than we've been able to put away in our piggy bank. That's where (we're hoping) you come in. This Kickstarter is for our friends, family, and fans who are interested in making sure this album sees the light of day! It's a chance for you to take the music industry into your own hands and essentially become our record label.
Of course, if you're familiar with Kickstarter, you know that helping us to make this record will not leave you empty handed. We spent a lot of time thinking of different rewards and experiences for each level of contribution, and we think we came up with some really cool options. One thing that was important to us was to make sure that each tier included all of the rewards from the lower tiers. So, for example... if you go for the $150 tier, you'll be getting the rewards from the $100, $85, $70, $50, $40, $30, $15, and $5 tiers as well!
What's In It For You...
let’s talk about the rewards. First and foremost, you’ll
get a digital download of the album weeks before it’s available to the
public for just $5. That’s half of what it will cost on iTunes or AmazonMP3 when
it’s officially released, so this is the cheapest and fastest way to get
the record and our way to let you guys know how much your contribution
is appreciated. Beyond that, there are plenty of other options
depending on how much you are able to contribute: an advanced physical
copy of the record, Kickstarter-exclusive t-shirt, your name in the
album’s liner notes, an "unplugged" EP, a “Making Of...” DVD, and more. All
of the rewards are listed in detail to the right.
For some of the higher tiers, the rewards get a bit more interesting. At $250, not only will you get all the rewards from the lower tiers, but you’ll also get a weekly video chat via Skype/Facetime, where we’ll show you around the studio, keep you updated on the progress of the record, and even give you sneak peaks of some of the new songs. A little higher up, at $500, you’ll become a true Valise VIP. We’ll send you every piece of Valise merchandise, as well as a guest list spot for every Valise show for the next two years. That’s every shirt, CD, poster, and sticker we make and admission to every show we play for the next 24 months. At the top of the list, you can get framed and signed gear used during recording for a $750 contribution, or at $1000 we'll come play a show at your house, in your backyard, or anywhere you want to set it up.
Again, we know we wouldn't be able to do this without your support, and we're excited that Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to include you in the making of this album. We sincerely appreciate every contribution, no matter how big or small, and we can’t thank you enough for deciding to be a part of this next big step for Valise.
Risks and challenges
When we head back in studio this January, we'll be facing a handful of challenges that we've been fortunate to become familiar with over the past two years. One thing we've made sure to do for this record is to enter the studio more prepared than ever. We've been sending demos and corresponding with our producer for months, getting ready to get started. That being said, there will certainly be times where the creativity can run dry, and time can start to slip away inside the studio. That's where we're hoping the advanced planning, demos, and our recent recording experience will come in handy to help make sure the project gets done within our time frame, while still making sure to put the music first. Once recording is completed, we will still have mastering, artwork/design, and manufacturing ahead of us. We will be using the same team that we've had in place for both of our previous releases, and we're expecting a smooth post-production schedule.
