Axles and Aperture is a show of photographs taken by Roller Derby enthusiasts, mostly amateurs, who donate their time and energy. These images get used by the teams and leagues for online promotion, print media, flyers, posters, team rosters, advertisements, and the like. These photographers are rarely compensated for their efforts but rather do it for the love of the sport and to be part of such an exciting movement.
We believe there are many captivating and beautiful images that have come out of all this and have decided to give these artists their own stage. We have set up a gallery show to highlight these talented artist and are looking to cover some of the costs involved in collecting, shipping, matting and framing all these images and extraneous costs of hosting the opening.
The Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery inside the Historic Englert Theater in Iowa City, Iowa is hosting a month long show of this artwork from January 10, 2013 to February 12, 2013 with an opening reception on January 18th. Admission is free and open to the public.
Risks and challenges
Our main obstacle to getting this exhibit up is getting the images here and framed. We held an open call for submissions, presented our choices to the gallery, and have set dates and times for all the events. It is now a matter of getting the images here and and getting them ready for showingLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
