100% Funded // Thank You
We can't thank you all enough for your generosity, we've been inspired by the support that has come our way over the past 25 days. We would like to thank everyone who has given their time to view the project and videos we've made alongside it.
Over the past couple of weeks the support from the MND community has been amazing, your support has motivated us to make a film that the community can be proud of. Over the next couple of weeks, we have the huge task of making this come to life, and with all your backings this has been made a reality. Keep watching this space, as we will continue to post updates regarding the films production.
Thank you again for all your contributions, and helping us bring awareness to a cause that is thoroughly deserving.
The 'About A Year' Team
Stretch Goal // £500
There's still time to back our project, even though we have reached our target, there is still so much more we can do with the film if we had the opportunity of a higher budget.
The Medical Film Studios can offer us a purpose built hospital ward that will add a huge amount of production value and authenticity to 'About A Year'. Due to it being a high profile location the cost exceeded our original budget. If possible help us reach our stretch goal and make 'About A Year' the best film it can be.
'About A Year' is an uplifting drama set in London. The film follows David, a twenty-six year old music producer throughout the year of his life following his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease. It sees the deterioration of his body during the year and highlights the effects it has upon his day to day life, his career which is a labour of love and his relationships with his family and friends. Displaying both the physical and mental strains MND presents.
The film not only aims to be a successful narrative, but we hope that it will also act as an awareness film for MND. For this reason we have been in contact with Motor Neurone Disease Association in Cornwall. They've been a great help so far, we hope that we can continue to work alongside them, making sure we portray the disease correctly. Our aim for the film is to reach the people that have been effected by the disease offering them something to relate to.
The project is close to our hearts as members of our team have loved ones either currently living or have lived with the disease. Therefore we really hope to make this film the very best that it can be, not only for us but for those that also have any connection with the disease. To find out more information about the association please visit this link: http://www.mndassociation.org.
Schedule: Filming in both Falmouth and London between the dates 1st-5th March. The majority of locations are based in London and others in Falmouth such as a recording studio which will act as David's workplace.
We have high hopes for this project and are aiming to enter into many short film festivals upon completion. This will help with the film's success and also in raising awareness for the disease. The festivals we are currently looking at are all UK based, including Bafta recognised Aesthetica short film festival and Pixelate festival, but we also hope travel abroad depending on its response.
'About A Year' In Dance
As part of the promotion for 'About A Year' we collaborated with a talented crew consisting of dancers Harry Scott and Beth Ireland and cinematographer Luca Parasiliti. Our aim was to form a dance that would display the gradual deterioration of ones body and the control in which they have when living with the disease. Along with also showing the support people can provide to help motivate and keep people with MND positive and fighting. Please checkout our latest update to see the finished film.
Katie Hickey a third year illustrator currently studying at Falmouth University, has come onboard the project to create the promotional material for 'About A Year'. When it came to creating the poster for the film, we wanted to convey so much. Katie helped us to refine our ideas and concentrate on the theme of being 'trapped in ones own body'.
Where is the funding going?
Our main aim is to make sure that everyone involved in the production is thoroughly appreciated throughout, making sure we cover all costs such as accommodation, food and travel. Another key element of our budget will be locations as we are filming in London at iconic venues such as Trafalgar Square and Richmond Park.
What happens if we exceed our budget?
If we exceed our budget of £2,300 it will enable us to use a truly remarkable location for a pivotal scene within the film. This will allow us to film at the beautiful Vista Bar at the Hilton located in Trafalgar Square; the venue offers exceptional views as well as a perfect setting for such a crucial scene.
About A Year - The Crew
The crew working on 'About A Year' is made up of third year film students from Falmouth University who are treating this project as part of their final piece towards their degree. However, it is also a collaborative piece, working alongside second year fashion photography students for their lighting and photography expertise as well as a brilliant illustrator and fantastic dance students as part of the promotional material. We hope that by including people from various fields we can combine our knowledge to make 'About A Year' truly the best it can be. *Moustache Alert* We were raising money for Movember during our head shots so please excuse our facial hair.
Marcus Thorn is a BA (Hons) undergraduate at Falmouth University, having specialised in sound design over the past 3 years, Marcus is taking up the role of writer/director for the first time. Alongside his academic career he has worked on a variety of existing projects, combining the roles of the sound designer, production assistant and editor. Marcus hopes these experiences will aid him in making 'About A Year' the best it can be.
Christian is in his final year at Falmouth University studying Film BA (Hons) and has been specialising in production for the past three years. Although predominantly gaining experience in producing Christian has also taken up the roles of director and editor on his previous productions. He hopes that this experience will allow him to have a broad knowledge of the industry going into this production. Having worked with many of the crew before Christian feels excited and confident for the direction of 'About A Year'.
Born in the French Alps and now studying at Falmouth University, Zack Langsdon has always had a fervor for Filmmaking. His creative cultivation in Cornwall has led him to Freelance for various clients and in locations all over the country, and he now looks to the future: hoping to emerge as a professional showing in Festivals internationally and paving the way for his career in the film industry.
Originally from Bradford, West Yorkshire, Wilbur Charles Roberts is also undergoing his ultimate year studying Film at Falmouth University. Wilbur's practice primarily focuses on editing but also ranges from creating soundscapes to the analysis of film criticism. Wilbur will be editing 'About A Year' and has previously built chemistry with crew members Marcus and Christian from projects prior. 'About A Year' is a rather ambiguous project, filming in busy tourist spots such as Trafalgar Square, Do you believe that you and your cohort will be able to achieve your desired outcome?' Wilbur replied 'indubitably'.

Risks and challenges
As with any project there are many risks and challenges, but our team are highly dedicated and professional individuals. One of our main challenges was getting the story right, as the film is tackling a very sensitive subject. We feel that with the help of MNDA and many re-drafts of the script, we've managed to create a story that is both factual accurate and engaging.
One of the main risks that we face on the production is negotiating the cast and crew around our London locations, but with careful organisation and management from our producer, we will be able to overcome this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
