What's the deal?
Just because Austin's population is growing, doesn't mean accidents involving cyclists has to. In 2012 we had record breaking vehicle/cyclist collisions, most involving intoxicated drivers.
And although cyclists come in all shapes and sizes, we are often stereotyped. But in reality, cyclists are your next door neighbor, a stay at home mom, a UT law professor or your favorite waitress. They are human beings just like you.
HELLO I'm a Cyclist aims to create a healthy relationship between motor vehicles and the bike community by introducing local cyclists to the community...on a sticker!
Each sticker has a picture of a cyclist with the phrase "Hello, my name is" and ends with the sentence "I'll be on my bike tonight, please don't drink and drive." But it's the middle sentence that is key, here you will find a fact about the cyclist, something lighthearted, relatable and humanizing.
Where does the money go?
$5,000 can get us roughly 10,000 stickers through The Bumper Sticker (a local Austin, TX sticker company).
With 10,000 stickers, we will continue to have "Sticker Rides" every couple of months engaging the cycling community to help make our faces seen.
We currently have plans to set up a booth at HOPE Farmers Market right here in ATX. This will give us an opportunity to educate some of the non-cycling community on our project.
And we are working on having a presence at a few of the many music festivals that happen throughout the year. This is a great way to get exposure and show our project to people from all over the world.
We believe the more visible our stickers are, the more visible cyclists will be to cars!
We want to expand beyond stickers! Pedicabs, taxis and even billboards are areas we would love to explore!
With local billboards costing anywhere from $1,000-$5,000 a month (depending on the location), if we exceed our goal, we will find a billboard that fits our budget!
What's in the future?
We are currently working on getting our non-profit status! This will allow us to continue to grow and apply for grants. After thoroughly saturating Austin, we'd love to reach out to cycling associations across the country and give them the tools to start their own HELLO!

Risks and challenges
We are dancing on the fine line of public art and defacing public property. We always encourage our stickers to be used in appropriate public areas, but there is a risk of them being abused.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
