A large-format storybook written by Michael Friedlander and illustrated by Michael Ploog
GOLIATH is an all-ages, 11" x 11" large format, 84-page illustrated storybook. The story follows the adventures of a small family of prehistoric people named the Ty clan. The Ty clan live in very difficult times and face incredible dangers every day. To survive, they must embark upon an epic journey to find a new world and the peace they have always dreamed of. They find great strength and determination in their belief in magnificent stories passed down through the generations that speak of giant white guardians that protect and watch over them. As the story unfolds, we will find out if these are just age-old tales the clan elders tell while sitting around the fire or if these great guardians prove to be so much more...
Michael Friedlander has been a longtime admirer of authors such as Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Howard, as well as a manic comic book fan for most of his life. His love for these led him to start the publishing company FPG Inc., which produced trading cards, art books, fine art prints, posters and calendars, all centered around the comic book, science fiction and fantasy arenas.
"I have worked with Mike Ploog on several smaller projects, but nothing even close to the size of 'GOLIATH' (bad pun intended!). I wrote 'GOLIATH' originally as a 420+ page novel. And while doing so I drew over 500 storyboard and character design drawings to help support my familiarity with the world of 'GOLIATH.' However, I never thought of myself as a great artist and the one person that I always had in mind to properly visualize the world as it lay inside my head was Mike Ploog. I am thrilled to say that Mike's finished paintings bring the story to life in the exact way I pictured it. And while this may seem like an exaggerated statement to make, I believe that his work on 'GOLIATH' is some of the best work that he has ever done. The time and care that he put into it is hard to put into words. You really have to see it for yourself."
Michael Ploog is a true treasure of the visual world. His 40-year-plus career has taken him, and us, through some of the richest projects the entertainment field has to offer. From his beginnings in animated television (Filmation and Hanna-Barbera), to his work in comics (Marvel Comics' "Conan," "Frankenstein," "Ghost Rider," "Planet of the Apes," and "Werewolf By Night," to just name a few), animated films ("Lord of the Rings," "Prince of Egypt," "Shrek," and "Wizards) to his work on more than 40 live-action films including "The Little Shop of Horrors," "The THING," and "X-MEN," Mike Ploog's work has magically touched us all in some shape or form.

We see KICKSTARTER as a wonderful way not only to be able to produce books more quickly, but also to be able to produce very special limited editions and offer them directly to collectors and fans. In fact, with KICKSTARTER we are able to offer, as just one example, a lot of original art which we could not do by any other method. It is a great way for us to reach each person individually and make certain that everyone has an exciting and satisfying experience.
Today, there are many challenges in the normal distribution routes for publishing, and we believe that KICKSTARTER will become an alternative and exciting arena for us to launch new products specifically for the people who love these genres.
We at FERAL PLANET are fans and collectors ourselves. This gives us the added insight of knowing what we would personally like in an art book and in a limited edition title. As sincere fans, we want to buy the highest quality products available, and likewise, we would only publish the highest quality items. After all, everything we create we do so for other like-minded collectors, and we have a lot of pride in the products that we produce.
In the near future, we plan to launch more book projects here on KICKSTARTER, including volumes on comic and fantasy greats such as Bernie Wrightson, Jeffrey Jones, and Enric Torres-Prat, among others.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Since all of the writing and artwork is actually completed, the risks are negligible. The funds raised here will help handle the logistics of printing the books and prints at the highest quality levels and also to be able to offer prized original artwork by Mike Ploog directly to the collecting audience.
Is the "Goliath Arrives!" image on the limited edition print the same one that is on the Kickstarter exclusive cover?
No. They are two different paintings that illustrate a similar scene from the story.
After living with Michael for 3 years, Oscar went on to the Houston Zoo where he became an integral part of a larger Colobus Monkey family. He fathered three daughters. Michael F. says: "Monkeys are extremely social animals and should never be kept as pets. From the first day that Oscar was placed with us as a temporary foster home, we always knew that a proper home with other Colobus would be found for him."
