What is Five String?
Five String is the story of a boy and his banjo. Well, more accurately it’s the story of a banjo passing from owner to owner, and the twenty-something dude who is trying to get it back. The film is a short comedy that follows two main characters. The first is JP Barton, who sold his grandfather’s banjo for a quick buck, but in a bout of guilt is now trying to track it back down. The second is the banjo itself, who we follow as he is passed from owner to owner through increasingly strange situations.
The film uses comedy and vignettes to show how the banjo has its own sort of experiences, and how its presence or absence affects its those who come into contact with it. The film’s story and style play out with a dry, almost surreal sense of humor that highlights the absurdity of life. Five String seeks to shed a new light on how we interact with the instruments and other mementos in our lives, and how their significance can reach well beyond what we assume.
Why run a Kickstarter?
Thanks to the grace of many people, and the personal investment of the filmmakers, we already shot the film! But wrapping up filming is hardly the end of the film’s life. We need to raise funds to finish making the film, reward the hard work of everyone involved in the making of it, and to ensure that this film has a future. This also helps cover the costs of production: food, parking, location rental fees, food, coffee, coffee, hard drives, and coffee.
Additionally, this will help fund the continuation of all that hard work. With the money raised, we will be able to pay for the post-production, the score, and the distribution. This kickstarter will allow us to pay to have the film edited, color corrected, properly sound mixed and scored. Then, once we finish the film, we will have the funds to send it to festivals and organize screenings!

Risks and challenges
Thankfully, we have already shot the film, so we don't have to worry about shooting it. We still have to finish the editing process and go through color correction, though, so we still have work to do. Additionally, we also have to find a sound designer to help mix the music and sound elements in the film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
