It's now...full steam ahead!
Even though this is my third Kickstarter project it's basically a continuance of my last one..."It's Now Time to Start Printing Over 45 Years of Negatives". I'm now doing what that project was designed to help me get started. A little behind due to some unexpected health issues in early 2015, along with some personal ones...but it's now full steam ahead.
Now at age 62, I will be producing limited edition photographs on a monthly basis. I hope to come out with 4-5 images per month that will be limited to small editions of 15-25 regardless of the image size.
Once the editions are sold out no more photographs will ever be made of them. For those who support this Kickstarter project, in addition to the rewards here, you will also be placed on a prefered client list to receive advance notices for my new images at special pricing.
From 2001 to around 2008 most of my photography was done in my Pacific Grove, CA studio that I shared with photographer Martha Casanave. Studio work was not new to me but before this time I worked mostly outdoors. My family was young and using the studio was easier to schedule my time and also not needing to worried about the weather, etc.
During that time I was also one of the galleries that sold photography by Ruth Bernhard who Ansel Adams said was "the greatest photographer of the nude". I spent time with Ruth over those years and she became a big influence of my studio era. Recently I have picked out a few negatives that I will start working on...these, to my eye, are ones that Ruth would have given me her thumbs up on.
Since I have now decided to make some of my images in platinum along with my traditional silver gelatin photographs, funds received through Kickstarter will be used to buy more materials for future printing.
Thank you for viewing my Kickstarter project...Russ Levin
Please note: I tried my best to show the platinum photographs at their actual level of quality. The uploaded images do not have the same look and feel as the original photographs. You will not be disappointed when you receive your photograph(s)....of that I am certain.
The platinum printing process is about 150 years old. For those who are not familiar with it, I would suggest you do a search on the Internet to learn more. Below are a few short videos that show the process.
Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal for you to receive your reward by the dates set within. This is my third Kickstarter project and and the one thing I have learned is to now be on time. For that reason I have limited this project to only two images and have started production of them and I'm very confident that you will receive your reward in a very timely manner. There are no other logistical risks associated with this project at this time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
