If Kickstarter is going to launch a fun event like Zine Quest, then I'm gonna do all that I can to participate and create something that fits the feel of old-school RPG zines and gives me a chance to stretch my brain muscles.
At project launch, Delayed Blast Gamemaster is a 24-page, saddle-stitched, 5.5-inch by 8.5-inch B&W printed zine. Inside this small booklet I've packed eight dungeon oddities, a dozen adventure hooks, and four different dungeon doors. And all of that content is completed and ready for print; in fact, I've already ordered (and received!) a test print and it looks great!
If you're familiar with my earlier RPG work -- either the D20 System material I created over a decade ago or the card decks I took to Kickstarter last year (Dungeon Challenge Cards, Outdoor Encounter Cards, Outdoor Encounter Cards 2) -- then you know what you can expect from Delayed Blast Gamemaster: Page after page of concepts, ideas, and inspiration that you can adapt, expand, and make your own.
What you will not find in Delayed Blast Gamemaster: Dedicated game rules and an excessive number of details that obstruct your own needs. Everything packed inside the zine is intended to get your creative juices flowing and give you a starting point when sitting down to plan an RPG session. And if something I've written is in your way . . . trash it! Make it your own! What do I know?
Risks and challenges
After years of experience with Kickstarter, running and backing projects, combined with decades of experience in publishing, I think _most_ of the largest challenges and risks have been avoided. The 24-page zine is completed and a test copy ordered and received. All that remains is funding and wrapping up any stretch goals that may be unlocked. One thing I have learned about stretch goals: Don't overdo it!
However, things can go wrong. As an individual, I do not have access to a company to assist with packing and shipping rewards (a friend helps!), and I have no control over life. Everything should ship on schedule, but things can (and sometimes do) go wrong. If something goes off the rails, I will post an update to explain the situation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
