What is The Refuge Collection?
This campaign is for BOOK 1 of The Refuge Collection- These are the first 18 tales from Refuge! Note: You can't bid for Book 2 yet... Although it is a work in progress and we've already completed most of Book 2. If you pledge now, we'll automatically email you when Book 2 is ready!
The Refuge Collection is a collection of dark, supernatural and terrifying tales set in and around the mythical town of Refuge – ‘Heaven to Some, Hell to Others.’
Ramsey Campbell, World Fantasy Life Achievement Award Winner, 2015:
"The Refuge Collection benefits an admirable project. Please support it if you can!"
Aaron Sterns, Wolf Creek 2 co-writer and Award-Winning Author:
"The Refuge Collection is the most ambitious shared-world horror series to come out of Australia. A horror collection that is both relevant and worthy, a rarity in an often insulated field."
Steve Dillon, The Refuge Collection series editor:
"Inspired by the workings of Clive Barker, Ramsey Campbell, Lovecraft and more, I set out to develop a collection of interlocking tales which together form an intriguing story arc. With its underlying mythology rooted in the world of the Cenobites and their puzzle boxes, Lovecraftian Mythos, ancient Egyptian deities and legends from across the globe, The Refuge Collection has it all!" - Steve Dillon, series editor.
We've enrolled some of the world's finest horror writers to help build Refuge- Notables such as Ramsey Campbell, Paul Kane, Kaaron Warren, Martin Livings, Lee Murray and More! Plus artists Will Jacques, and Eric Gross, Matty Taylor, Brian Craddock and Edward Miller.
The Rewards
eBooks:
We decided not to include these on the KickStarter, but they are available either from Smashwords or Amazon PLUS! Everyone who pledges for the softback or hardback will also receive download codes for the eBook from Smashwords.
Softback and Hardback Books:
Here's a preview of what the printed book will look like, and some possible interior layouts (this is not yet finalised)...

Artwork Reward:
Here's the artwork from Will Jacques- These will be signed and printed separately- that's 13 illustrations in all. They are 11" x 14" and will look great in an art folder!
Background to Refuge:
Sarah van Hoden, the town's Angel, has been brutally murdered. There are plenty of suspects, and as the tales are told, we learn more about her killer, their motives, and the overall impact on the town and its people!
The Refuge Collection is a collection of award-winning (and emerging) writers and artists who’ve banded together from across the world to build our little town of Refuge. Each writer has added to the places, people and events that take place in Refuge, slowly building the mythology and adding to over-arching plot. This first collection contains 3 volumes, each containing 6 tales from Refuge. So that's 18 hair-raising, blood-pumping short reads to enjoy by lamplight, sitting on a bench in a churchyard, or on the late night commuter train.
Book 1 (Volumes 1-3) contains 18 stories by Ramsey Campbell, Paul Kane, Lee Murray, Kaaron Warren, Brian Craddock, Martin Livings, Noel Osualdini, Tracie McBride, EJ McLaughlin, David Allen, Steve Dillon and a poem by Chris McCorkindale, written in 1997 and published here for the first time!
The third aspect of The Refuge Collection is a very important one- to raise awareness for real world refugees living real-world horror stories. We all need refuge at some point in our lives, but some people need Refuge more. We're working with the support of charities such as The Sanctuary Foundation Australia and Refugee Action UK to help people living real world horror stories.

Previous Experience:
In 2013, Steve Dillon, at the helm of Oz Horror Con, produced The Book of The Tribes as part of a Kickstarter to screen Clive Barker's 'Cabal Cut' in Australia. Here's a link to a video of the Book. Several of the contributors to The Book of The Tribes are also contributors for The Refuge Collection. https://youtu.be/JPJirKXyIkE?t=16
Risks and challenges
We've tried to cut the risks out completely: the stories are written, the artwork is in place, the printing is sorted out. We've published most of the stories online and have even done some proof printing, and feedback has been amazing!
Plus, if we don't hit our target, we get no money from you, it stays put in your account!
The only risk remaining is the risk of not raising enough funds to make a difference... you can help us to do that.
