Israeli music has been an important part of my life since childhood. My first music teacher, Cindy Paley, brought us the songs of Israel as part of our Jewish Day School education, back in Los Angeles in the late 1980s.
My grandmother arrived in Palestine in 1947, at the age of 15, when she learned how to drive on an ambulance - a skill that served her well during the War of Independence. She met my grandfather z"l, who was a Chief Purser for El Al following a stint in the British Air Force and IDF, and who unfortunately was killed in 1955 as his El Al plane was bombed down over Bulgaria, My father was 5 months old. My grandmother and father moved to the US in 1958.
Growing up, my grandmother would play me old record albums she picked up on various trips to Israel, and loved hearing me play the old folk songs on the piano. I remember so clearly sitting with her, a child of 8 or 9, singing songs of the holidays and the land, she telling me stories of being young in Israel and building the country.
I have long dreamed of recording these songs, and hope that this year in honor of my grandmother's recent 85th Birthday and Israel's 70th anniversary of statehood, I will be able to make this dream a reality - with your help!
All net proceeds from this album will benefit a number of charities in Israel, ranging from those which support soldiers and their families, to those who bring music to underprivileged communities.
I thank you in advance for your support.
PLEASE NOTE: The goal of $15,000 in funding will cover only recording the album. An additional $3,500 is needed to master, design, and manufacturing the physical album.
Risks and challenges
Recording an album requires a great team of musicians, engineers, arrangers and a fine producer. Once the album is recorded, we require the ears of a top engineer to master the tracks. Finally a graphic designer works on the cover art and release flyers, while the artwork and master CD are sent off to manufacturing.
If I am unable to raise the necessary funds, I will not be able to bring a team together to complete this project. Note that recording and mixing in Israel is generally much less expensive than with similar level of talent and quality of studio in the US.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
