For those NEW to SUPER! - What is SUPER! about?!

So it came to our attention recently that we created this awesome campaign with cool videos and all kinds of stuff, but we didn't really talk about our comic and what it's about - what's the story?!  Our Kickstarter story has been updated as such with a brief summary that will continue here in a full-fledged pitch - we want to get new fans on board and remind old fans why they liked SUPER! in the first place. :)

-----------------------------------

Super is an action-comedy superhero comic that loves to lampoon anything and everything about the superhero genre, but is not so much of a spoof that it forgets to be an actual action adventure as well. We like to say it's "The Venture Brothers" meets "Astro City". In a world that is as packed to the brim with superhumans as a Marvel or DC universe, there are so many costumed weirdos that being "super" has become commonplace. With literally hundreds, if not thousands, of people with extraordinary powers running around, it's a struggle to get noticed.

While our whole world is on display, the main story follows the exploits of a ragtag team of underachieving supers in their quest to truly become heroes. Whether foiling a robbery as the surrounding neighborhood is decimated by a 150-foot Utonic robot, or finding themselves encased in ice after glacial fisticuffs with Baron Blizzard and his team of post-apocalyptic hockey miscreants, our heroes simply don't know the meaning of the words “public liability”. They are not the A-list Avengers/Justice League level heroes, or even the B squad. Our heroes are the very bottom of the D-list; the losers, the misfits, and the incompetents. They try to do good and help people, they really do, but they are so clownshoes they can't even stop arguing over what their team name should be like they were a high school band.

It's packed to critical mass with colorful and zany characters, such as Blitz, the super strong, thunderbolt-chucking dynamo who might one day be even greater than her famous parents, if she could just get over her anger management issues. Or the Furious Fire-Ant, a smart-mouthed acrobat in an armored ant suit who is basically what would happen if the Blue Beetle was an irresponsible drunk. Or how about a giant robot who doesn't know that he isn't living in a children's anime? Or a gun toting vigilante so insane that he sees no proportional difference between murder and jaywalking? There are Mad scientists, Magicians, Monsters, Mimes, and even a smirking manchild called The Streak who can run at supersonic speed, but only when he's nude.

That's only a fraction of the insanity we'll experience as we watch these characters grow, change, try, fail, and try again in their quest to be worthy of the name "Superhero". It's fun, It's action packed, it's hilarious, it's dramatic, basically it's everything a superhero comic should be.
