9/7/12 WE DID IT!!!
Because of YOUR support, we not only reached our goal - we more than DOUBLED it! I am blown away by your belief in this project, and the spirit that has governed this entire campaign from the word go. You have never allowed me for one minute to feel like I am doing this alone.
I am absolutely thrilled that I will now have the resources to finish this CD and get it out in the world for all to see. And I'm inspired to do my very best to make this project worthy of your belief in it.
I can't wait to send you your CDs and other rewards!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for such an amazing ride. This is just the beginning!
8/24/12 NEW GOAL, NEW REWARDS! We still have 12 days left. Can we double my original goal? Become a backer and help us make it to $40,000!
I've been so blown away by how this campaign has gone that I've decided to double my original goal and see how far we can take this little record. We got to $20,000 in less than 36 hours, and 17 days in we're already at almost $29,000! Wouldn't it be amazing if we could raise the remaining $11,000 in the next 12 days? Because I'm so excited about this, I've added some NEW awesome rewards, including a DINNER PARTY at my house in Atlanta (I cook) and some of my favorite instruments I've ever owned.
Why? Because as I've said before, the CD costs will be about $20,000, plus more for extra studio and mixing time and musician fees. A professional publicity and radio campaign can cost another $10,000 (amazing, right?). And a reliable tour vehicle, which I'll need to take this show on the road, is going to cost at least $5000 (that is, if I don't want to stick my feet out of the floor and run to make it go!). Plus I need to pay for flying myself and other musicians out to Seattle (you do want JJ playing the drums on this CD, don't you? ;), a photographer to take the pictures, and, well, all the other costs I've already named.
I believe we can do it! And if we make it to $40,000 by the time this campaign ends on September 7, I'll send every backer an mp3 of me singing a particular song. It might be a cover, but I'm not saying what. And it's only for you guys. Because you ROCK!
****8/9/12 UPDATE: Incredibly, together we've reached $20,000 in a day and a half! I'm stunned and inspired and totally humbled. What a vote of confidence! Thank you so much!
If you haven't made your pledge yet, please don't let this stop you. Come on board! The more successful this campaign, the less I'll have to cut corners and the more fully realized the project can be - that means taking the extra time to get the mix just right, or spending the extra money to bring in the cello player I'd really love to hire. Real magic can happen in the studio when you stop watching the clock and have the space to allow the songs to come to life organically.
If we make it to $30,000 or $40,000, I can do all this, plus hire a professional publicity and radio team so that more people can hear the record when it's done. And maybe even buy a little car so I can take these songs to YOUR town on the road. Touring the record is another dream of mine, because as you know, songs come to life in a different way onstage.
So please do join in if you're excited to be a part of this project! I've added a couple new rewards and I hope you enjoy picking out those that are the most fun for you.
Thanks again for your support. You amaze me.

Thanks so much for wanting to be a part of making my debut solo CD, "One True Thing." I really could not be more excited about this project, and I'd love the chance to see it through and get it into your hands. I've written a lot of songs over the years, and only a fraction of them have made it onto Girlyman albums. There are so many songs that I've wanted to share, and I've chosen the ones that feel the truest.
I'm calling the album "One True Thing" after a song I wrote about the thing that keeps me going - something I can't name or see or describe. It's the force that drives me, both in my art and in my life. And it's what's driving me to make this album.
The thing is, I really can't go any further without your help. I did a week of recording last month in Seattle at Empty Sea Studios, working with the freakishly talented Michael Connolly. It's been a total joy to begin to realize these songs, and the album sounds amazing already! Very full and deep and soulful. If I reach my funding goal, I'll be able to return to Empty Sea and finish recording, plus pay for mixing, mastering, musicians, production, duplication, artwork, postage, and all the many other expenses that go into making a CD. I'm completely independent, and don't have the backing of a record label, so my hope is that you will want to hear this CD as much as I want to make it!
