Speculation, a game by Dirk Henn for 3 to 6 players. Players try to enlarge their fortune in an ever fluctuating market by trading shares at the opportune time to get the biggest possible profit. The player who was skilled and lucky enough to have the most money at the end of the game, wins.
Queen Games is proud to offer “Spekulation”, one of Dirk Henn's first games.“Spekulation” was originally conceived in 1992 and was self published by Dirk Henn and Barbara Weber by their company db-Spiele. This is a hard to find classic with the only copies ever produced handmade by Dirk and Barbara.
In this new version of Speculation we asked Dirk Henn to revisit one of his early classics. Not only was he excited, he loved the opportunity to apply his subsequent years of experience in the gaming industry and give this game the polish he felt it deserved.
Players start with $20 each.
And 8 Company cards. These Company cards are used to determine which company brick a player wants to move up on the board. Each player places the 8 company cards face down in front of themselves.
Every player also receives a “Bank Holiday Card” this card is shuffled into their Company cards deck and draws 2 off the top of the deck. If a Bank Holiday Card is played company bricks are not moved.
How far up the track a Company Brick moves is determined with a grab bag of movement-tiles numbered 1-6. There is a second grab bag of action-tiles. Trade, Rank +1, Rank -1, and No Action.
By drawing one of these action-tiles a player may buy and / or sell one share. Change the rating by one up or down of a company brick on the board or draw the tile that cases No Action.
The game board is broken into 6 distinct tiers. The value of a company brick is determined by its rank within these tiers on the board.
The game ends when the first Company brick reaches the CLOSED space. The turn is played to completion. Than every player adds his / her cash and the current value of his/ her shares.

*The costs incurred in previous Kickstarters has made it uneconomical to ship to other countries. Shipping individual packages to residences is very expensive and adding higher and higher dollar amounts to our backers for shipping fees was beginning to take away the value our Kickstarter backers are supposed to be receiving when supporting our projects. Speculation will also be available in local brick and mortar stores at the time of street date. This was not an easy decision to make as we would like everyone to be able to participate in our projects. We do thank and appreciate all backers from all countries that have contributed to our Kickstarter campaigns in the past.
Risks and challenges
This is an exciting project for us. Bringing a rare classic game by Dirk Henn back to fans and introduce it to a new group of gamers.
Our toughest challenge with our previous projects has been our choice to produce the games in Europe. We prefer the quality that is attained by the European print houses that we cannot get at this time in China or North America. We are working with printers in the U.S. to see if they can meet our quality goals, but so far that has not come to pass.
Everything will be shipped with the main game and not in separate shipments.
