New Merlin Expansion and Copenhagen
Merlin is expanding with the addition of the Knights of the Round Table. Enlist the help of the most famous knights of the realm to help you on your quest to become king Arthur's successor. Each of the 12 knights has their own unique ability that must be used wisely to gain an advantage over the competitors.
In addition, we have some special Kickstarter pricing to offer.
The Knights of the Round Table will be available at the Queen Games booth at GenCon (Aug. 2019). We are projecting that it will be available from retail outlets in Europe, the USA, and Canada soon after that. It includes rules in German, English and French.
Copenhagen is currently available as a retail version. However, the Deluxe edition is not projected to be sold in retail. The extra contents of the Deluxe edition will be for sale directly from Queen (and possibly in retail), but the Acrylic pieces of the Deluxe edition will not be. It includes rules in German, English, French and Dutch.
More information about the abilities of the other knights will be revealed during the campaign.
The Knights of the Round Table offer their help to the players in their quest to become the new king. Each of the 12 knights has their own unique ability for the players to exploit.
At the start of the game, each player gets two knights that will assist them over the course of the game. The knights can either be given out randomly or drafted (for more strategic control).
Here are some examples of the Knight's abilities:
Sir Galahad can turn in one of his tiles every time he gains a shield, flag, or construction material to get the same type of resource from any of the 6 principalities.
Sir Lancelot has his own Marshall figure that is placed in a principality, strengthening the actions taken there. Every time the player performs an henchman action in that principality, they perform the action twice.
Sir Gareth has specialized in defending against traitors. Each time the player defeats a traitor of a particular color for the first time, they gains an extra point, and place a flag of the traitor's color on Sir Gareth's board. Depending on how many flags he has collected at the end of the game, the player gains additional points!
More information about the abilities of all other knights will follow during the campaign through updates.
Merlin Base Game
Merlin, by the popular designers Stefan Feld and Michael Rieneck, offers 2-4 players a deep strategic puzzle of using your dice in the best manner.
King Arthur is looking for a worthy successor to his throne. Together with Merlin, he seeks the best candidate from among the Knights of the Round Table. Each player assumes the role of a Knight of the Round Table and attempts to win King Arthur’s favor.
Each round, player will dice for their knight and one for Merlin. On their turn, a player must use one die to move either their knight or Merlin around the action rondel, taking the action of the space where they land. Each player moves their own knight clockwise around the rondel, whereas Merlin can be moved by all players both clockwise and counter-clockwise.
Players are challenged to accomplish as much as possible in the two rounds between each of three scoring phases (six rounds total in the game). They will be able to score points by building manors in the surrounding countryside (earning bonuses along the way), controlling the castles of the six principalities, and defeating traitors who wish to infiltrate their castles. In addition, they may complete missions each time they use a die by fulfilling certain conditions. The player who scores the most points is declared King Arthur's successor.
Merlin offers a dense experience of strategical and tactical choices packed into a brisk 75 minutes of game time.
"Merlin was already just about a perfect game...[the Arthur expansion] adds so much insanely, incredibly compelling depth to the game." -Richard "Rahdo" Ham
Seated on the coast of Zealand, Copenhagen, the picturesque capital of Denmark, is divided into neighborhoods by a crisscrossing of harbors and canals. One of the neighborhoods, "Nyhavn" (New Harbor), is famous for is colorful gabled houses perched along the waterfront. In Copenhagen, players are architects striving to build the most impressive new facades by purchasing different shaped tiles and piecing them into rows and columns.
Copenhagen is a mixture of a rummy style card collection game and tetris. On your turn, you will either take two adjacent cards from the card display, or use the cards you have collected to purchase facade tiles of different shapes and place them on your house. There are discounts for placing like colors together, and special abilities can be earned by covering certain spaces or rows. Players gain points by finishing rows and columns, and the first to 12 points wins the game.
The rules can be downloaded in different languages from the Queen Games website!
Production and Delivery
The production of the Merlin expansion and all components are planned for July. As soon as it is produced, we plan to ship the pledges out to backers shortly after. We print our games at factories in Europe, so there are no long boat rides involved.
Queen Games is not responsible for any local charges, customs and/or lost packages due to local postal service, if your country is not listed as "friendly" shipping, and will not be able to reimburse you if you are charged any.
Terms and Conditions
Following the terms of Kickstarter, Queen Games will provide a full refund provided the request is received within 14 days of the close of the campaign.
If a request is made after this period, any refund would be at the discretion of Queen Games, and would be a maximum of 85% based on incurred fees and handling costs.
DAMAGED OR INCOMPLETE PRODUCTS
We understand that all backers want to receive their items in pristine condition; however, the realities of worldwide shipping can sometimes make this difficult. We guarantee that the product you receive will be complete and all internal components in good condition. We will do our best to ensure that your package arrives in good condition, but all decisions on box replacements will be made on a case by case basis. Due to the difficulty and expense in replacing boxes, depending on your region, we will not be able to replace some boxes with minor cosmetic damage only.
If you refuse to accept your package on arrival we will not issue you a refund for the cost of the pledge.
Risks and challenges
Queen Games is a company with over 25 years of experience to it's name.
We know about the Kickstarter challenges, such as coordination of production from multiple manufacturers, delays with production and shipping, challenges with shipping around the world and missing or lost packages.
Also, despite sending the rewards at the same time, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others because of logistics of international shipping.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the name, final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active.
If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the general release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
