Merlin by Stefan Feld and Michael Rieneck and Pioneers by Emanuele Ornella are Queen Games' new releases.
Both games are offered in this campaign individually or as a bundle in our Kickstarter Special!
This version of either game will not be in distribution in the United States, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, and certain European Countries. They are only available through Kickstarter or directly from Queen Games at conventions or online.
The Kickstarter Special includes both Merlin and Pioneers as well as an exclusive Queenie for each game. These Queenies will only be available through Kickstarter and directly from Queen Games at conventions or online.
Development for Merlin and Pioneers, along with their respective Queenies is nearing completion. Artwork is completed, and all wooden parts are scheduled for delivery on time. Production is planned for mid-October. We will make our best effort to deliver the games by Christmas.
Why Kickstarter then??
1. Kickstarter allows us to provide copies to customers who live in countries in which Queen Games has little or no distribution.
2. Kickstarter allows us to offer special bundles for those who want both games, as well as some exclusive content (the Queenies), plus the opportunity to save on shipping cost.
3. Kickstarter allows us to promote the new release and present it to fresh audiences.
After fulfillment, Queen Games plans to sell both games directly from their website or at conventions while supplies last. This will be a limited print run, and so Kickstarter will be a way to guarantee you get a copy.
We do intend to sell the game at the Essen Game Fair, October 2017.
Problems with Kickstarter in the past?
We are very aware of our previous difficulties with Kickstarter communication and fulfillment, and we are committed to correcting those problems. Please accept our apologies.
Here are changes that you can expect for this campaign:
1. For the United States we will be using an experienced fulfillment service. We are confident that this new approach will help us reach our target shipping date.
2. We have contracted a dedicated moderator who will monitor the campaign for questions in the comments sections and messages, with the goal to respond to these as quickly as possible.
3. To avoid delays. we have intentionally chosen in this campaign to offer only these two new releases without the option to add on previous releases.
4. The survey will follow immediately after the end of the campaign, so that we can be prepared for shipping as soon as the production is finished.

People from all over Europe are surging into the “New World” – America – hoping to start new lives. Departing from the East Coast, pioneers move westward colonizing the land.
Pioneers by Emanuele Ornella for 2-4 players is a great family game which is easy to learn and brings a lot of interesting tactical choices to the game night.
In a game of Pioneers, the players attempt to populate the cities shown on the game board with their pioneers, using coaches to transport them around the map. Each pioneer has a specific profession, and can only be settled in a city where their work is needed. A player settling a pioneer in the right city will either get a permanent or immediate ability granted. Permanent abilities bring more income or additional purchase actions, while immediate actions bring various effects and used at the right time can decide if you win or lose.
After all the pioneers riding in a coach have been deployed on the game board, the player controlling the coach earns money and victory points.
In addition, the players construct roads between the cities, expanding their own network and earning money from other players who use the roads. At the end of the game, each player will be rewarded with additional victory points based on the number of their pioneers in their largest network of connected roads. The player with the most victory points is the winner of the game!

Exclusive Queenie: New Frontiers
New Frontiers offers 3 modules that alter the game play and therefore the choices and decisions players encounter during a game of Pioneers. All modules can be played separately or in any combination.
In the first module players switch the hotel tiles from the basic game with these new hotel tiles before setting up the game. Instead of a hotel just offering money as a special action, there is now a variety of 5 different actions. These include money, victory points, getting a coach for free or even placing a pioneer from a coach in any city containing your own pioneer.
The second module alters the sergeant immediate ability to a different permanent ability. Players now gaining a sergeant tile place it on their new sergeant board. For each tile they own, they can move the stagecoach token one space for free, meaning they do not have to pay 1 Dollar too their opponent or the bank. A player can have a maximum of two sergeant tiles.
The third module alters the farmers immediate ability. Players gaining a farmer tile can now choose any one coach from the display and take it, without paying their respective costs. When cleverly used, this opens up the opportunity to build more roads, since coaches can now be acquired for free.
New Frontiers is exclusive to this Kickstarter campaign and is otherwise only sold at conventions and fairs in limited numbers.
The new game “Merlin” by the popular designers Stefan Feld and Michael Rieneck offers 2-4 players a uniquely enjoyable experience.
King Arthur is looking for a worthy successor to his throne. Together with Merlin, he seeks the best candidate from among the Knights of the Round Table. Each player assumes the role of a Knight of the Round Table and attempts to win King Arthur’s favor.
By using their dice, the players move Merlin or their own knight on the action-rondel. The space where they end the movement specifies their possible action. Each player controls the movement of their own knight, whereas Merlin can be moved by all players.
Three scorings take place during the course of the game. The players have to repel the traitors and can gain victory points for their constructed manors in the environs, for their influence in principalities, and for their henchmen placed on the game board. Additionally, the players may complete missions in order to gain further victory points during the game. After six rounds, the player who has most effectively used their dice to navigate the rondel to complete missions and take advantage of the interim scorings, thus accumulating the most victory points, will become King Arthur’s successor.
Merlin offers a lot of strategical and tactical choices in its pleasant 75 minutes of game time.

Expansion module: King’s Favor
King’s Favor is meant for advanced players and players who have played the basic game a few times and want a new challenge. When resolving a mission card, players now have the choice to either take the victory points, or learn a new ability for the rest of the game. Which ability they can learn depends on the number of victory points and the henchman icon on the card. The player who chooses the best abilities for their strategy and knows when better to take points will have the advantage over his opponents.
Exclusive Queenie: Treasures of the Environs
With Treasures of the Environs players gain a lot of new choices when building a manor in the environs.
Now every terrain tile awards a special action, from gaining an extra Merlin staff to forcing your fellow players to discard one of their hard earned shields, flags or construction materials. Players not only have to look where they can earn the most victory points, but also search for the action they would benefit the most of.
The Queenie comes with 15 terrain tiles and 2 neutral Merlin staffs. When constructing the environs all terrain tiles without a tower are swapped for the new tiles. Whenever a player builds a manor on one of these tiles, he gains a special action. There are 6 different actions. Taking Excalibur or the Grail from another player, gaining an apple and a victory point, getting an additional Merlin staff, gain two things from a principality or forcing other players to discard one of two things.
Treasures of the Environs is exclusive to this Kickstarter campaign and is otherwise only sold at conventions and fairs in limited numbers.
Production and Delivery
The Production of Merlin and Pioneers along with their respective Queenies is planned for mid-October 2017.
Once produced, we plan to ship the pledges out to the backers so that everyone should receive their games by Christmas
We are partnering with a Fulfillment Service to deliver the pledges in the United States.
Shipments within the EU and to the Rest of the World will be done directly from our warehouse.
As we are attending the Spiel’17 convention in Essen, the games will be available to purchase there.
Canada, Russia, Brazil and any other country : We are not responsible for any local charges, customs and/or lost packages due to local postal service. We will not reimburse you if that is the case.
Risks and challenges
Issues with old campaigns
All prior Queen Games Kickstarter campaigns are fulfilled by Queen Games. Through running those campaigns we learned a lot about various Kickstarter challenges, such as coordination of production from multiple manufacturers, delays with production and shipping, challenges with shipping around the world and missing or lost packages.

Also, despite sending the rewards at the same time, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others because of logistics of international shipping.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the name, final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active.
