This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, March 27 2019 10:00 PM UTC +00:00.
Seated on the coast of Zealand, Copenhagen, the picturesque capital of Denmark, is divided into neighborhoods by a crisscrossing of harbors and canals. One of the neighborhoods, "Nyhavn" (New Harbor), is famous for is colorful gabled houses perched along the waterfront. In Copenhagen, players are architects striving to build the most impressive new facades by purchasing different shaped tiles and piecing them into rows and columns.
Copenhagen is a mixture of a rummy style card collection game and tetris. On your turn, you will either take two adjacent cards from the card display, or use the cards you have collected to purchase facade tiles of different shapes and place them on your house. There are discounts for placing like colors together, and special abilities can be earned by covering certain spaces or rows. Players gain points by finishing rows and columns, and the first to 12 points wins the game. More gameplay info can be found below.
We are offering two versions of Copenhagen, the Retail and Collector's Editions with cardboard, and the Deluxe box with Acrylic tiles. The cardboard tiles are very high quality 3mm cardboard. We know that may not mean much to you, so let us explain. The standard thickness for cardboard components in board games is 2mm, partly because not every factory is able to produce thicker components due to the pressure needed to punch the cardboard. We print in some of the best factories in Europe, and because of how tactile the game is, we have upgraded the quality of the cardboard to the highest standard.
In addition, we have designed laser cut (3mm) double sided Acrylic tiles for the game that will be included in the Deluxe edition. These tiles have a very nice feel to them, but best of all, they have transparent windows. It is very difficult to communicate how great these tiles look in pictures, but we have done our best.
All games are language independent, and will include rulebooks German, English, French, Dutch, and Spanish. There is no need to select a language.
Collector's Edition and Deluxe Edition
We have tried to make a version of the game that is specifically aimed at hobby board gamers, adding in some extra content for variability and advanced play, and giving even more as stretch goals. The Collector's Edition has all of this extra content, where as the Deluxe box includes the content and upgrades the components. Both the Collector's Edition and the Deluxe Box also come with a limited edition box sleeve. These are special editions that we plan on selling exclusively from the Kickstarter or conventions, although there may be a limited release into retail based on stock after 2019.
Stretch Goals (Collector's Edition and Deluxe Box Only)
Ability Tiles: Players are able to collect tiles during the game that give them special actions (see below for game play description). The retail version comes with 5 sets of tiles. We've included two more in the Collector's and Deluxe Editions, and there are stretch goals for even more. Each set of ability tiles comes with 4 tiles.
Mission Tiles: Missions give all players another way to earn points if they satisfy the condition of the mission for that game. We've included one in the base pledge, and there are stretch goals for more.
More Stretch Goals to Come...
This mini-expansion has tiles in multiple colors. It will be available for purchase from us as a Queenie in the future, but you can add it on to this campaign at a discount. Also, all three of our Essen releases can be added for $50 a piece including shipping.
To do an Add-On:
- Click on the pledge level for the edition of Copenhagen you would like.
- Manually increase the pledge to the correct amount for what you want.
- There is no need to message or post a comment. We will collect this information in the survey.
Canada Friendly: We have pre-payed HST through DHL, so there should be no additional fees upon delivery. This charge has been factored into the shipping costs.
Australia/New Zealand Friendly: AU and NZ will be fulfilled using a fulfillment partner in Australia. This will involved shipping a container, which will delay fulfillment by a few weeks compared to other regions.
Brazil Friendly: We have a fulfillment partner in Brazil which we will use to keep shipping and import costs reasonable; however, the logistics of using this partner will mean shipping to Brazil will be delayed by 2-3 months compared to other regions.
Copenhagen Game Play
In the game Cøpenhagen, players must design new façades in "New Harbor" so that they fit seamlessly into this beautiful harbor setting. By using the cards on displays, players receive the corresponding façade polyomino tiles, with which they construct their houses. Building over certain spaces and floors gives additional skills for the rest of the game. Floors that consist of a only windows are particularly rewarding and bring the players extra points.
Before we go into detail about the game rules here are some videos that might do a better job of this:
On their turn, a player will take one of two actions, either:
1. Taking Cards - or -
2. Construct Facade
Player need cards of different colors to be able to build their houses. If they choose to take cards, they may take any two adjacent ones from the card display.
Once a player has enough cards they may choose the other option:
Constructing Facade. In order to take a facade tile from the display they must have matching cards in the same color and quantity as the number of spaces on the tile they wish to place. The cards are discarded and the tile has to be build in the house. There are two simple rules for building a tile:
1. The tile can be rotated and flipped in any way, only to fit in the construction grid.
2. The tile has to be built in the bottom row or on top of another tile already built.
If a player builds over a coat of arms or finishes a row with a coat of arms, they receive an ability tile which gives them powerful actions during their turn. The player who most cleverly uses his ability tiles and manages his card hand best will build the nicest facade and win the game!

Retail Edition and Why Kickstarter
We are including a pledge level which will allow you to get the retail edition of Copenhagen several months early if that is all you want. The retail release is currently projected for around May in Europe and October for North America.
We have chosen to use Kickstarter for two reasons. First, it helps us gauge the interest in the game in different regions so we can plan the size of our print run. Second, it allows us to offer a deluxe edition which we would not be able to without Kickstarter.
Production and Delivery
The production of Copenhagen and all components for the Deluxe Edition are planned for 6-8 weeks after the campaign ends. As soon as it is produced, we plan to ship the pledges out to backers shortly after. We print our games at factories in Europe, so there are no long boat rides involved.
Queen Games is not responsible for any local charges, customs and/or lost packages due to local postal service, if your country is not listed as "friendly" shipping, and will not be able to reimburse you if you are charged any.
Terms and Conditions
Following the terms of Kickstarter, Queen Games will provide a full refund provided the request is received within 14 days of the close of the campaign.
If a request is made after this period, any refund would be at the discretion of Queen Games, and would be a maximum of 85% based on incurred fees and handling costs.
DAMAGED OR INCOMPLETE PRODUCTS
We understand that all backers want to receive their items in pristine condition; however, the realities of worldwide shipping can sometimes make this difficult. We guarantee that the product you receive will be complete and all internal components in perfect condition. We will do our best to ensure that your package arrives in good condition, but all decisions on box replacements will be made on a case by case basis. Due to the difficulty and expense in replacing boxes, depending on your region, we will not be able to replace some boxes with minor cosmetic damage only.
If you refuse to accept your package on arrival we will not issue you a refund for the cost of the pledge.
Risks and challenges
Queen Games is a company with over 25 years of experience to it's name.
We know about the Kickstarter challenges, such as coordination of production from multiple manufacturers, delays with production and shipping, challenges with shipping around the world and missing or lost packages.
Also, despite sending the rewards at the same time, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others because of logistics of international shipping.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the name, final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active.
If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the general release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
