About this project
Colonialism is a game of 19th and early 20th century imperialism by Scott W. Leibbrandt. Each of the 2 to 4 players assumes the role of a nondescript colonial power.
Players try to gain influence in the unindustrialized regions of the game board and obtain as many resource cubes as possible.
This is a bilingual edition (German & English). Note: The cards are only in English language.
Spielworxx, is a small independent games publisher in Germany. The game will be manufactured in Europe.
Queen Games is providing its years of expertise and knowledge to help small publishers manufacture, market and distribute their games internationally and we are proud that Spielworxx´s game Colonialism is our second effort presenting exciting independent games to the international market and here on Kickstarter. The first effort, Ruhrschifffahrt, was successfully launched last year.
Each of the 3 Colonialism game turns consists of these phases:
- Turn Segment 1
- Action Round 1
- Action Round 2
- Colonization Phase
- Turn Segment 2
- Action Round 3
- Action Round 4
- Colonization Phase
- End Turn Phase
An Action Round
Each player is active three times during each action round. The active player may take one of the following actions:
- Draw 1 Influence Card
The player draws the top influence card from his card deck and adds it to his hand.
- Move 1 Ship
The player moves one of his ships to any sea zone on the board.
- Play 1 Influence Card
The player plays one influence card from his hand.
- Explore 1 Region
The player places one influence disc in a region.
- Withdraw Influence Discs
The player may move up to five of his influence discs from a single region back to his reserve.
During the colonization phase, a region may need to perform colonization actions. These actions could cause influence discs of the players to be added or removed from the region and may allow resource cubes to be collected.
In the game, each player has his/her own deck of 24 influence cards. The decks of all players are identical. 7 of the 24 cards are action cards that are played and immediately resolved. The other 17 cards are policy cards that are played face down to one of the six regions of the game board. All policy cards are only resolved in the colonialism phase of a game turn. These cards increase or decrease a player's influence. This innovative game play is exciting, suspenseful and reduces downtime.

*The costs incurred in previous Kickstarters has made it uneconomical to ship to other countries. Shipping individual packages to residences is very expensive and adding higher and higher dollar amounts to our backers for shipping fees was beginning to take away the value our Kickstarter backers are supposed to be receiving when supporting our projects. This was not an easy decision to make as we would like everyone to be able to participate in our projects. We do thank and appreciate all backers from all countries that have contributed to our Kickstarter campaigns in the past.
Risks and challenges
Our toughest challenge with our previous project has been our choice to produce the games in Europe. We prefer the quality that is attained by the European print houses and this makes shipping to countries outside of Europe challenging.
Everything will be shipped with the main game and not in separate shipments.
