Chicago Express is a family friendly train game for 2-6 players in which players take on the role of investors of late 19th century America. The Goal: Make as much profit as possible in the thriving railroad sector.
Take part in the development and the expansion of the 5 largest railway companies of the country. It is their aim to make high profits through the expansion of the rail network towards Chicago, the development of town and mountain hexes, and the purchase of company shares.
Chicago Express is the large scale release of Winsome Games' Wabash Cannonball. Wabash Cannonball is the first game of Winsome Games' Historic Railways System. German Railways (the funding reward for this project) is also part of the Historic Railways System.
Only the player who makes wise investments and develops the right companies will win by having the largest amount of money at the end of the game.
To start the game, one share of each railroad company is auctioned off to the highest bidder. Then play continues over multiple turns in which each player can choose from 3 available actions: auction, route expansion and development.
The needle of the chosen action is turned one step to the right and the player has to decide if he wants to implement the action or actually do nothing.
Once 2 needles have reached the red indicator a dividend phase is triggered and players earn their profits through the shares they have acquired during the game. Then the needles are all turned back to their starting point and a new round begins!
Auction --> The player puts one share of any railroad company up for auction. That players starts the bidding, and bidding then moves clockwise around the table. The highest bidder wins the auction and pays the bid to the company, getting the share in return.
Route Expansion --> The player can expand the railroad network by placing up to 3 locomotives on the board thus increasing the value of the company shares. But each expansion comes as a cost, that has to be payed by the company's available money.
Development --> The player can develop certain hexes in the game to further increase the value of the companies that occupy those hexes.
When one of the four end game conditions are met players count their money and the player with the most money wins!
The Nickel Plate Road Expansion
The "Nickel Plate Road" expansion contains 12 new locomotives in purple, one counter piece, and one share of the Nickel Plate Road company.
This is a one share company, so you better be ready to be the highest bidder once it is available for auction! Different from other companies the NPR builds all its 12 tracks without cost (only on plain hexes) directly after being sold. Thus making it more costly for other companies to build along side.

All additional costs that may occur because of custom duty or local charges are the backers responsibility.
Risks and challenges
Chicago Express is one of our classic train games and we are proud to present it here as a Kickstarter Special!
Our toughest challenge with our previous projects has involved the coordination of production when a game is made with components from different manufacturers. This creates some logistics and shipping challenges that we want to improve upon. Going forward our plan is to minimize this situation so that we can better manage our production timeline and delivery. In the case of Chicago Express, we have the component specifications and resources in place and ready so we are very excited about the expected turn around time for this project.
Tortuga, Greed and Fresco Big Box are about to arrive in the US (the container is at the US port and waiting to clear customs), which is on time or in advance of our promised delivery. In the EU we shipped the games already to the backers.
Kingdom Builder Big Box is also proceeding according to schedule and will go in production in early June and can be delivered on time.
Due to shipping time (ocean transit, customs, rail/truck, and final delivery), our release policy for Kickstarter Analog Games releases is that they will be released in the EU when they are available since we produce in Holland. North America will be 6-8 weeks after that and for backers everywhere else it will be 8-10 weeks from the EU launch.
