Flipside is a fantasy comic about two women: a pansexual jester girl, and an honorable female knight. It's primarily an adventure comic, but it has a heavy focus on relationships. It also explores alternative sexual lifestyles in a sex positive way. It updates 3 times a week, Monday / Wednesday / Friday. I've been working on it for almost 15 years.
One thing I've tried to do with it is to avoid typical fantasy tropes, so no elves, dwarves, or dragons. There is plenty of knights and sorcery, as well as an antagonist called "The Thin Man" (no relation to Jeff Goldblum) who does magical experiments on people. And although there are antagonists, I've tried to stay away from the typical good vs evil plots, which are overdone in fantasy; the conflict in Flipside tends to be more about relationships and opposing ideas.

Flipside is up to 7 books so far... now it's time to get the 8th book out! And that's not all, we are going to do the 9th book as well!
Book 8 will be a 200 page, black & white paperback book, consisting of chapters 37-41 Books 9 will be a 200 page, black & white paperback book, consisting of chapters 42-44. They will also include intermission strips and some other extras. The goal represents the cost of printing and shipping the books.
After we pass the $5,000 mark, there will be additional goals:
That's right, I also want to print 2,000 copies of Book 9! Well, I have enough material for a Book 9, so I figured might as well! The next $5,000 will go towards printing those books!
Also, I am running pretty low on Book 1's. So in order to continue to sell these at conventions, I am going to need to do reprints. The next $5,000 will go towards keeping Book 1 in circulation.
At $25,000, I'm going to finally make print versions of Book 0! This will be in one Omnibus collection, which will be roughly twice the size of one of my normal books. It will include all 26 chapters of Book 0. This will be more expensive than a normal book due to it's size, and I'll also need to hire someone to help me re-scan and re-letter many of the older pages.
The rewards will be very similar to last time, with some new additions. Naturally you can get the books themselves, both old and new! There are physical and digital copies available! Just like last year, I am offering sketches inside the book of any character you like (it doesn't necessarily have to be a Flipside character.) Ink sketches will be available as well, and in great amounts! Keep checking back for additional rewards!
We also have something new this year, Flipside Bead Sprites! These were made by Koboldina Beads. There is one for Maytag and one for Bernadette!
They are available as magnets or as ornaments.
You can also customize your reward! The following are available:
- Additional books: Add $15 for each extra book you'd like. Also add an additional $5 ($10 if outside the U.S.) for shipping if you are getting 3-4 books, and an additional $10 ($20 if outside the U.S.) if you are getting 5+ books.
- Additional PDF's: Add $10 for each extra PDF you'd like.
- Additional books /w sketches: Add an extra $5 per sketch. (So $20 per each book with a sketch in it.)
- Additional Flipside Bead Sprites: Add $10 for one, or $20 for both. Also add an additional $5 ($15 if outside the U.S.) for shipping.
Please keep in mind that Book 9 can be added on to any order as well!
If you're not sure about prices, just send me a message through the Kickstarter website and ask me. Also, if you do pay for an add-on, send me a message letting me know specifically which book(s) you wanted added on.
Risks and challenges
Just like last year, I plan to go with Jostens as my printing company. They're a company that normally prints yearbooks, but they also do graphic novels, and they've done a great job with my last few books. Being a US company, they are a little more expensive than international options, but I think the quality and quick turn around time are worth it.
The files are all ready to go to the printer, and I really don't forsee any problems. In the very slim event of unforseen charges, I will cover the additional money myself. It's also possible that there could be delays with recieving the books, and if so I will keep you posted on the situation with frequent updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
