Flipside is a fantasy comic about two women: a pansexual jester girl, and an honorable female knight. It's primarily an adventure comic, but it has a heavy focus on relationships. It also explores alternative sexual lifestyles in a sex positive way. It updates 3 times a week, Monday / Wednesday / Friday. I've been working on it for almost 15 years.
One thing I've tried to do with it is to avoid typical fantasy tropes, so no elves, dwarves, or dragons. There is plenty of knights and sorcery, as well as an antagonist called "The Thin Man" (no relation to Jeff Goldblum) who does magical experiments on people. And although there are antagonists, I've tried to stay away from the typical good vs evil plots, which are overdone in fantasy; the conflict in Flipside tends to be more about relationships and opposing ideas.

I've managed to self publish 6 books in the series so far. Unfortunately, money has been tight, and it's caused the 7th book to be delayed. So I'm asking for help from the fans to help get it out!
It will be a 200 page, black & white paperback book, consisting of chapters 32-36. It will include intermission strips, and an exclusive bonus story about Bernadette and Polly's past. The goal represents the cost of printing and shipping the books to my "warehouse" (by which I mean my parent's house.)
And there's more! If we keep raising money beyond the goal, there are additional things I'd like to do:
At $7,500, I'm going to hire someone to redesign the website. This is long overdue, as I've had my current design since 2004 (And the template for that design goes back even further.) I'd like to redesign it to be more modern and user-friendly, with additional content.
At $10,000, I'm going to do new T-Shirts design that will be exclusive just for this Kickstarter! Every backer who donates over $75 will get a T-Shirt included with their reward. Here's what the design will look like:
At $20,000, I'm going to finally make print versions of Book 0! This will be in one Omnibus collection, which will be roughly twice the size of one of my normal books. It will include all 26 chapters of Book 0. I'll need to hire someone to help me re-scan and re-letter a lot of the pages, as I lost most of the HQ versions.
For helping contibute to the cause, we have all the rewards you'd expect: physical copies of the new book, or any of the older books. Digital versions in PDF form are also available. I am also offering sketches inside the book of any character you like (keep in mind it doesn't necessarily have to be a Flipside character.) Keep checking back for additional rewards!
You can also customize your reward! The following are available:
- Additional books: Add $20 for each extra book you'd like.
- Additional PDF's: Add $10 for each extra PDF you'd like.
- Additional books /w sketches: Add $25 for each additional book, and specify which sketch you'd like.
Important: Make sure to send me a message and let me know which additional reward you want! Otherwise I will assume that the extra money is simply due to your generous nature!
Take note that shipping within the US is already included, so you if you live in the U.S. you will not have to pay extra for shipping! However if you live outside the U.S., there will be an extra charge for shipping.
Risks and challenges
I have a couple of choices in terms of printing companies, but I plan to go with Jostens. They're a company that normally prints yearbooks, but they also do graphic novels, and they've done a great job with my last couple of books. Being a US company, they are a little more expensive than international options, but I think the quality and quick turn around time are worth it.
The files are all ready to go to the printer, and I really don't forsee any problems. In the very slim event of unforseen charges, I will cover the additional money myself. It's also possible that there could be delays with recieving the books, but I don't expect that there will be any trouble getting the books shipped out by December.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
