Humans of the Internet Age will fully utilize the creative contributions of Kickstarter backers to thoroughly infuse the vast environment with original art and media that all serves a narrative purpose.

Humans of the Internet Age is a narrative-driven puzzle game being built in Unreal Engine 4. In the game you play as yourself, a human that is suddenly abducted and snatched away from your normal life. You wake up in the dwelling of the Great Observer, a being that has been studying humanity since the advent of the Internet. His monument to modern man is filled with thousands of real, backer submitted human artifacts for players to interact with including paintings, photographs, music, interviews, books, essays, poems, and videos.
Players must solve puzzles to explore this vast museum while thwarting it's security system, and the Great Observer, in order to escape. What has the observer uncovered about humanity through his vast collection of artifacts? That is exactly what you will discover along the way.
Humans of the Internet Age is targeting a October 2018 release.
Humans of the Internet Age is using Kickstarter in a very different way than other crowdfunded games. Most just need it for funding, but this is a collaborative project that cannot exist without your creative contributions. By backing this project, you can submit art or media in several different forms to be used in the game. This Kickstarter is an invitation to be a part of a unique and interesting experiment. We, much like the Great Observer in the game, are going to learn a lot about people in the age of the internet.
The game takes place in an environment that is supposed to be an accurate representation of what interests people in different cultures around the world today. Even with a much larger team, it would take years to research and create enough art, media, and assets to come close to achieving that goal.
Through Kickstarter, we can collaborate and create this environment together. What exactly will that environment look like when all is said and done? What tone will internet culture create through the halls of the game? I cannot wait for us to find out!
All collaborators will receive full credit for their work, with their name, or a pseudonym if they choose, displayed in game along with their content. The different categories of art that can be submitted include:
- Museum Art - This category includes paintings, drawings, photography, or any art that can be displayed on a wall
- Written Art - This could include poems, short stories, essays, blogs, opinion pieces, or anything original you have written
- Audio Art - This could include songs, ghost stories, podcasts, conversations, rants, answering machine messages, or anything original you have recorded
- Video Art - This could include animation, live-action video, or even a GIF. The content of these videos could include stories, plays, documentaries, comedies, dramas, or any other original videos you have created
Every wall you see could display one of your images. Every bookshelf could hold one of your books. Every screen could play a video, and every radio or phone could play a song or leave a message. Every inch of this world could be used to tell your story.
There are only 3 rules to remember when it comes to submitting art. First, it must be your original content. We don't want to run into any issues with intellectual property. Second, content that is so graphic it will keep the game from getting released will need to be adjusted. If your work falls into that category, you can either tweak it, or submit something else that we can place in the game (something would have to be extraordinarily extreme to fall into this category). The third and final rule is, your content will be used as it is received. Editing your creations would defeat the purpose of having you submit content. Keep that in mind while deciding what to submit.
So, why Kickstarter? Because Humans of the Internet Age could not be created in any other way. Kickstarter not only serves as a way to fund this project; it serves a narrative purpose, adding meaning and societal realism to the environment. This game cannot deliver on its premise without your creative contributions.

Risks and challenges
With all video games, there are always risks. Delays are unfortunately common, but there are many reasons to believe you will be playing this game next year. Extensive pre-production work has already been completed. The main story has been written and the environment has been mapped. Prototypes for interaction and stealth systems, as well as basic menus have been built and are currently being tested. Finally, I am an experienced Unreal Engine 4 veteran, having successfully used the engine to build my last game, which released on Steam earlier this year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
