The Super Great Adventures of Rico the Monkey-Tailed Skink (Canceled)
The Super Great Adventures of Rico the Monkey-Tailed Skink is the first book in the upcoming series, where kids can pick the next plot.
The Super Great Adventures of Rico the Monkey-Tailed Skink is a planned picture book series for Children aged 2-6. The first book has been completed in paperback form. I am working on getting a final proof approved for a hardback version.
Rico is a fun and sometimes mischievous cute lizard from the Solomon Islands, just Northeast of Australia. After logging destroys his home, he flies to the United States and is taken in by a family in Texas.
The first book was written as a Christmas present this last year for my three boys Hudson, age 5, Jax age 5 and Hendrix age 4.
I was able to hire an illustrator to include both my my wife, myself and our three boys as characters in the book.
It was awesome when my boys first saw the book and realized that the characters looked like our family.
That was when the idea was born to write more books about Rico. I envision two lines of books. One being a fun and adventurous direction similar to a Curious George type platform. The other tackling things young Children may encounter at school and in life. Topics such as bullying, confidence, those who may look different, doing your best and trying to help others when they can are just some ideas to start.
After seeing the character likeness in the first book, i had the idea to create a web page at www.ricothemonkey-tailedskink.com where parents and their Children could submit an Idea for the next book. This free contest would have the book idea chosen from all entries by the cutoff date listed on the page under the official rules by my own Children.
The winner would then have their character included in the upcoming book featuring their idea. They would of course receive a free signed copy of the first printing.
Lastly I would love to have a plush doll in Rico's likeness to accompany the book series to give Children a tangible Rico to keep close at bedtime.
All of my Boys still sleep with their "lovies" they have had since they were babies. Just don't tell their friends!
Thank you in advance for your support of my project.
I cant do it without your help.
Risks and challenges
The risks in this project are limited. The first book is done and published.
The future books will be decided by a contest among readers for the next great Rico adventure.
Printing is always a challenge and does take some time to get it right.
The plush Rico dolls will need the prototype created and a minimum order made.
I have found a manufacturer to do the prototype if funded.
The rest is up to me and my illustrator to get quality books written, illustrated, edited and formatted in a short amount of time.
This is the part I am most excited about.
